Good pre-med program?

I'm thinking about going into the medical field to be some kind of doctor or medical researcher. I'm very interested in biology and chemistry but I like working with and helping people, anyway I was wondering if anyone knew how well known Pitt was for biological, biochemical and/or medical sciences. I was also wondering how University of Pittsburgh's "pre-med" program compared to Penn State's. Thanks for the help!!

Pitt is awesome for anything medically related. There's lots of cutting edge research going on, and lots of opportunities for undergraduate involvement in bio or chem departments. They are soon going to be opening a state of the are biomedical science tower (352,000 square feet). Also UPMC is world renowned and directly adjacent to the Pitt campus. Pitt has medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, public health, physical therapy and other specialties, so you would be able to investigate many options before making a decision. I suggest you look into Pitt. Sorry, but I don't have any first hand experience with Penn State.

uhhhh.....ummmm... anybody have any advice? comments? just want to say something? well i had another question about Pitt so I might as well just put it up while I'm here... if I had a chance to live in off campus in an apartment my freshman year with the rent at $500 (or less) and it would take 20 min to get to the campus on the bus should I take it?? anyhoo... any thoughts? Thanks!

Thank you so much! Sounds great maybe I can convice my dad that pitts pre-med program is just as good or better than Penn State's... (hes a penn state alum) ... anyway Pitt is sounding better by the day! I just visited there and love the campus...

I would go with the dorm. They have living and learning communities where regular study and tutoring sessions are available. Also, wherever you go, dorm living will help you to be better connected with the other students.

I'd suggest living on campus or right on the edge of it, especially your first year. The buses in pittsburgh can be somewhat unpredictable and they are just about always late. Plus, you're probably going to get sick of riding them back and forth everday. Besides, living in a dorm at pitt, or any college I imagine, is a once in a life time experience. Between crazy floormates and random drama you'll have enough stories to last a lifetime after the first semester alone.
About the pre-med, yeah it's actually amazingly good especially since there are tons of opportunities to work/intern at UPMC, which is one of the best hospitals in the country. Good luck convincing a penn state alum to let you go to pitt, that will probably be a little rough.

Pitt hasn't played Penn State on the football field in years, but still the rivalry persists!

whats the GPA and SAT score needed to get in PITT main?
