I am an international student who is in a community college, who want to transfer to an university with Geological Engineering major. I want to go to a public university. I prefer universities in large cities with good transportation, because I do not have a car and I plan to not buy one until I get a job. I have found University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, but that was the only one I know. Please let me have more selection.

Mining engineering programs also lead to similar outcomes.

University of Texas Austin
University of Utah (don’t know anything about Salt Lake City’s public transit system though)
University of Wisconsin - Madison
University of Kentucky (Lexington is a decently sized city)

Thank you for answering! Now I have more choices. It seems that every universities good at Geological Engineering is in Midwest or Central US…

Very good reputation: Colorado School of Mines in Golden (suburb of Denver). It is “a state engineering university located specializing in the geosciences.” Here is the link to their Geological Engineering Department: <a href=“Home - Department of Geology and Geological Engineering”>http://geology.mines.edu/Home/

People coming out of “Mines” seem to have no problem finding employment in their specialities. But it is also “highly selective.” The admission rate is 37% (and the applicants are a selective slice of the general applicant pool to start with).

One great thing about Mines is that they get lots of government and private corporation research money.

Thank you for answering! Hmm… Denver?

Here is the ABET accreditation search:

http://main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx

Use it to find a list of the 13 geological engineering bachelor’s degree programs and the 14 mining engineering bachelor’s degree programs in the US.

Note that there are two other “Mines” or “Mining” schools in the US, in South Dakota and New Mexico. They are less expensive than the one in Colorado.
