Good reach schools for Computer Science major

I am an international student. I am currently in 12th grade. I will be writing my SAT on Jun 4.
My GPA - 9.2 (10 point scale) - 10th grade
3.25 (4 point scale) - 11th grade (I will be writing my improvement exams. So this can increase)

SAT score - Based on practice tests I am expecting 1200. I am still prepping. I will also write 3 SAT subject tests : Literature, Math 1, Physics

Extracurricular Activities - I learned programming languages outside of high school. As of today, I know Ruby, Python, HTML, CSS. I am planning to learn more like Java, C# etc after my improvement exams and SAT. I am also an expert at Photoshop.

I will start volunteering at an animal shelter after my exams.

Will this profile be enough or should I start doing something else?
I need good reach schools Computer Science major.

I really dont care about the size, ethnicity or anything about the college. I should have a great CS program and should be a safe environment. I am also interested in taking an Anthropology course as a minor maybe.

I really like NYU. Do I have a channce of getting in?

Why do you want reach schools? What is your financial situation?

I’m sorry. I mean safety schools

I will apply for a financial aid. I will take a student loan if I don’t get any aid.

Some schools cost $60,000 per year and do not give aid to internationals. It would not be advisable to borrow anywhere near that much even if someone would loan it to you.

I won’t loan the complete the fee. I will also pay some amount of it. Maybe $30,000. I really don’t know about this. I am still figuring this out with my parents. First, I really want to know what my college options are. My safety schools, reach schools

There will be hundreds of US universities with perfectly acceptable CS programs that you can get into, so it’s impossible to list them all. Don’t expect much in the way of financial aid, though.

Very few American colleges are need-blind in admission, and claim to meet 100% of demonstrated need, for international students. Many American colleges don’t offer any need-based aid at all for internationals. The ones that are relatively generous with aid to internationals generally are very selective. Your qualifications would make them reaches (or in many cases, beyond reaches).

So there are few (or no) safety schools for an international student with high need, especially without a very high GPA and scores. NYU probably is out of reach for you, both for admission and for adequate financial aid. New Mexico Tech is a strong STEM school that may be within reach for your stats; however, for 2015-16, NMT gave financial aid to only 3 international students (averaging only $12,104 each).

Here is a list of colleges that guarantee merit scholarships for certain minimum stats:

Check out Louisiana Tech, the University of Mississippi, Prairie VIew A&M, Arkansas at Monticello, the University of Central Arkansas, Alabama State, and Howard University.

What it if I turned my scores around? I am writing improvements and I am positive that I can get my 11th grade GPA to 3.7 (4 point scale) and above. I just wrote a practice test and I got 1600!! I am still prepping a lot.

Please don’t consider the financial need only my academics. I think I can manage to pay it off without much financial aid.

How would you do that?
You won’t even be granted a visa to study in the United States if you cannot demonstrate an ability to cover all costs.

You might want to check out some of the state universities on the following list, along with the schools I mentioned above.

Click-sort on the column labelled “Total cost per yr (out-of-state)”. Talk to your family about what level of costs you could afford, even without grant aid or loans. For example, could your family afford ~$36K/year for the University of Maryland - Baltimore County (UMBC)? UMBC is considered a pretty good STEM school and has a much lower sticker price than NYU.

I’m saying that I can pay off my whole fee. I don’t need any financial aid. But it doesn’t mean that I very rich or anything. It would be good to have a little aid

Yes, my family can afford $36K for UMBC. They were even ready to pay 60K for NYU. Can I get into NYU with good GPA (3.7 or above) and SAT score of 1500 or above

@Nimisha99 You do realize that it is 60k a year right? Not just a one time fee for 4 years. Are they really ready to pay 240k+?

Yeah I do know that
