Good restaurants

Is there any decent restaurant(good food, decent price) around campus? Because I am really tired of the food in cross-road.

chipotle, gypsys, la burrita, le vals (northside), asian ghetto, house of curries, mediterranean place on durant…

walk around lol

smart alec’s, gyspy’s, ib’s, fat slice, the restaurants in the asian ghetto (includes gypsy’s) are all pretty good. if you can walk a little farther, go to Shattuck and look through all the cross streets as well as along Shattuck.

make sure if you get chipotle, you have some chipotlaway ready.

Cheeseboard (northside), la mediterranee (college ave), house of curries, Zachary’s (college ave), Herbivore (Shattuck).

Some of these are not super cheap (<8-10) but are definitely worth a try if you’re in the area.

Sam’s Market (Telegraph, next to Walgreens) has some awesome sammiches.

Cheeseboard is exceptional. Best Pizza I’ve ever had.

Annes Kitchen (Telegraph & Dwight) has a good breakfast for about $6-7.

Blondies is better (and cleaner) than FatSlice.

La Note (Channing & Shattuck) has good breakfast/brunch/lunch. A bit pricey–$15 per person.

La Burrita is decent for the price.

Thai Basil in the Asian Ghetto is pretty good. Wait can be long.

Smart Alec’s…Meh. It’s okay, but they don’t accept debt card, so I rarely go there.

Blake’s on Telegraph. Decent food. Nice atmosphere. I’d go back.

cheeseboard is north berkeley, not northside of campus. Its an easy bus ride over and not a terrible walk. That and Zachary’s are the two pizzas Berkeley is most famous for.

Fat Slice is cheaper than Blondies*

Could be. I don’t remember how much it cost. I would not go back to Fat Slice. Blondies, maybe…

If I were to get pizza, I would go to cheeseboard well before either of those places. Zachary’s can get a bit pricey…it’s good too though.

Other than what have generally been mentioned above, there’s basically two areas near campus where you can get some really good, “genuine,” food:

1.) Gourmet Ghetto (North Berkeley, northwest of campus by a few blocks) – this is where CheeseBoard is located; lots of other good restaurants, but slightly expensive

2.) College and Ashby – sure, it’s several blocks south of campus, but there’s a lot of nice places including Manpuku, Gordo’s, and Flame’s. Oh yeah, did I forget Ici? Best ice cream ever ;)

lol at asian ghetto being “decent”

I ate at the Mexican food place in the ghetto…never again. Godfreakingawful.

That Italian place there always seems busy, so it might be okay too…

gypsys is alright. i don’t know but the quantities they give never fill me up.
thai basil gives me the most disgusting feeling post-eating. steve’s mexican…err korean bbq is alright, but it’s just chicken and rice (does fill you up though albeit not the most healthy meal). the Vietnamese place gives you a lot and is okay tasting as well, but some of their dishes taste exactly the same (just with different names) which makes me lol. I hate the mandarin house place…you might like it if you’re a huge fan of saltiness though. =</p>

So where is the asian ghetto, is it close to Unit 2?

asian ghetto is like a 4 min walk from unit 2.
asian ghetto is on durant in between bowditch and telegraph.

by saying the asian ghetto is decent…I really only meant gypsys. I don’t like the gyro place, the mexican place, steve’s korean bbq isn’t all that good. One of the asian places next to gypsys is fine for me (I think the one next to thai basil) but I’ve never tried the other one. Just try things out, you guys.

thai basil is good. steve bbq… is meh… mandarin house is very meh… gypsies is good, the sushi place is… meh ramen house is alright, vietnamese town is ok. pancho’s is ok…
