Good Schools, Easy Apps?

Hey,

I am trying to add an extra school that is a match/slight reach for me just in case the Ivy quality schools don't work out (I currently am applying to two schools of this type).

However, I would like to add a good school (maybe top 40 or so as ranked by US News and World) that has a pretty simple application.

This probably means that the school uses the common application, requires one or zero recommendation letters, and keeps required supplements to the minimum.

I don't care where it is located. Does anyone have any suggestions?

University of Washington

A couple of years ago WUSTL used the CA with no supplemental essays, but likely 2 LORs. It's most likely in the slight reach rather than match category for just about anyone.

Duke takes the common app and has an optional essay on their one-page supplement that they say is REALLY optional. (Of course, it might be more than a slight reach for you.)

U of Wash app is (I believe) 12 pages that requires a listing of all your classes and grades from 7th though 12th grade!

Bump. Bump.

Wesleyan University has 2 rec letters (why does that mean more effort btw?) but no supplements and is probably a reach.
Of course. I don't really know what schools you have on your list anyway or what your stats are so I can't say anything for sure.

WUSTL uses common app, has one teacher rec and has a completely essay free supplement.

Vanderbilt has no supplement essay. Just fill out date for supplement.

There is no such thing as a "truly optional" essay. This is a trick designed to weed out lazy applicants. Not to mention you should use every opportunity available to define yourself in your apps.

Boston College (great school) doesn't have any supplement essays and uses common app.

nj_azn -- think what you wish, but here is a quote from the Duke admissions website with instructions on its supplement:

"The following questions are optional—and yes, they truly are optional! If you choose not to answer them, your chance of admission will not be affected."

i heard georgia's is very easy. no essays or anything- although not the common app

WUSTL for sure. No supplemental essays, and the deadline is like 2 weeks after the usual 1/1 for many schools.

Yeah, Washington's is actually kinda annoying with entering all of your grades.

Think about Illinois, though.

Also, although it's not top 40, the Minnesota app takes like 10 mins.

No Common app: Indiana, Charleston, Delaware

In regards to the Duke optional essay: true, it is optional and not answering it will not change your chances of admission. However, look at this as them saying, "You don't HAVE to answer this, and we won't count it against you if you don't, but it will almost never do anything but help the people who do." So, basically, you are still at a disadvantage by not writing it, even though technically it hasn't hurt your chances of admission.

Another quick note, don't apply somewhere just because the app is easy and it is in the US News Top 40. Just a thought.

Tulane. very simple application

I don't know your gender, but Scripps #27, LAC has you submit a graded paper and just has a Why Scripps question. UWash actually has gone to pretty extensive essays but WSU has easy questions. ASU is super easy

Also U Alabama, and Hofstra, NC State and Appalachian

Anoying apps: U Maryland College Park and University of Florida.
