Good Schools for Art History/History

What are some good schools for me to apply to if I were to major in either art history or history? I was thinking in terms of curriculum, courses, maybe museums nearby to intern at, or even museums on campus.

I was looking at UCLA, USC, Stanford, Northwestern, Amherst, Penn, Cornell.

Williams is an obvious suggestion - legendary art history department with 3 museums on or near campus (do yourself a favor and visit the Clark if you got to Williamstown).

Vassar College has a great art history department. (Got my BA degree from there in art history, worked as a museum curator for many years). So does Northwestern (got my MA there). Brown University also excellent dept. Harvard, obviously, U Cal Berkeley, University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania.

Seconding Williams, and Bryn Mawr if you're female (you could also go to Haverford and major at BMC, which is allowed even if 'Ford also offers that major).

UCLA has a fantastic reputation. Museums in town--the have a specially close relationship with the Armand Hammer,(and they have their own museum on campus--- also the Getty, LACMA,Norton Simon, MOCA,the Huntington......and more. I got my MA there and went on the study museologia in Italy.

Most large universities have good, even excellent, art history departments. This goes for the big publics -- like Michigan, UCLA, Berkeley, UNC -- and for the medium sized privates, including most of of the ivy league. Just to mention a few in the medium/private category: Brown, Yale, JHU, Stanford. There are others.

In the small liberal arts college there are some outstanding choices: Williams, Skidmore, Conn College, Wesleyan, Oberlin, Hamilton, Vassar. Smith, Barnard and Bryn Mawr if you are female. It's a great school, but I wouldn't say that Amherst is especially strong in art history.

The one I'm most familar with is Williams. So many directors of major museums are Williams grads that they call them the Williams art mafia. Excellent facilities, wide course selection, wonderful internship opportunities, a very strong department. Hands-on access to three museums: The Clark, MassMoCA, and the Williams College Museum.

History is easy. Every academically rigorous college has a good history department. It's a very popular major.

Bryn Mawr, Haverford, Yale, and Williams.

(The Bryn Mawr art history department is for both Bryn Mawr and Haverford students.)

Northwestern definitely has a strong art history and history program. The city of Chicago has top-ranked art museums and access to many art galleries. The history program is very competitive and popular among undergraduates.

I second Smith College -- it's great for both.
