Good schools for international relations, other than ivies

Alright so I really want to study international relations but am having a hard time finding schools with an expertise in the area other than ultra-selective schools. Right now i've, narraowed it down to american and GW. Any other suggestions? And which is better for IR, GW or american?

How about Tufts and/or Georgetown as reaches? They're probably better than some Ivies.

Maybe Goucher as more of a match/safety (I don't know your stats)?

Tufts, Georgetown.....and my friend has said good things about Marquette's program.

Occidental is supposed to be really good.

Although, personally, I would definitely want to go to a DC school. The opportunities at both AU and GW are absolutely amazing.

There's almost no point to looking at the Ivy league for IR undergrad. Few, if any, offer it at the undergraduate level.

But schools to look at:

Georgetown
Tufts
Occidental
Claremont McKenna
Lewis & Clark
Rochester will be offering IR major in fall 2008, I believe. Their econ and political science departments are excellent.
Boston University

Outside the US:
University of British Columbia (Canada)
University of St Andrews (UK, believe the hype for their IR program)
London School of Economics (UK)
University of Warwick, [E]PAIS (UK)

There you go.

You need this report, see page 28. It's a survey of IR faculty facilitated by William & Mary that has them rate programs and scholars in the field.

http://www.wm.edu/irtheoryandpractice/trip/surveyreport06-07.pdf

If you're looking for a slightly less selective school, U Michigan got ranked 12th. Just gotta love downtown Ann Arbor.

U Penn does offer IR as a major, they also have a major and a minor in Modern Middle Eastern studies.

International Relations @ UPenn

The Middle East Center (MEC) at the University of Pennsylvania

Macalester College (UN's Kofi Annan went there, as did many IR-type people)

It may be more political than IR, I would check it out though, that is if you're up fo Minnesota...

Tufts, Georgetown, Macalester, Pomona, Johns Hopkins

Though many don't acknowledge it, Hopkins has an amazing, top ranked, IR department

Georgetown's SFS is practically the definition of ultra-selective.

u Penn IR is great, but fails to meet the OP's "not an ivy" requirement

Alright Ill look into these schools, but could someone please give me some feedback on which is better at IR between GW and American

For international relations I would suggest looking into Miami of Ohio. They have a solid international studies program, a great Luxemborg program and a wonderful reputation. You will certainly want to apply to a grad school program after you finish your undergrad work. I would suggest GW for grad school or Texas A&M, Geo. Bush school of Diplomacy.
