I'm a solid student (low 1300 sats, high GPA, but with some good recs, activities, and essays to boost things up), but I never took my SAT IIs. I'm a senior and have applied to a couple of average-ish schools in hopes of scholarship money but recently I've kinda had the urge to apply somewhere more selective, but have found out that I don't meet the requirements. Does anyone know of some good schools that will just take my SAT? Is the SAT II requirement negotiable at all? Any ideas or advice would be appreciated,
Sarah

You may have a shot at Michigan... they don't require SAT II's

Most selective schools, like Stanford, Ivies, UCLA, UC Berkeley, University of Virginia, University of Chicago, etc. require the SAT IIs. Georgetown makes it optional, but the deadline is past.

Do you have an ACT to use in place of SAT II? That increases your options

I thought ACT scores were only equivalent to SAT I scores- they lack the depth of an SAT II test so I don't think colleges will accept it in place of an SAT II score. Plus you already took the SAT I, making the ACT useless for your case.

ACT scores mean that you don't have to use any SATs at all, I or II

notre dame doesn't require sat 2s

Chicago doesn't require SAT IIs period. Some schools, like Duke, give you the option of taking SAT I + II's or simply using the ACT instead - I believe this is JHU's policy as well, although I'm not sure.

UChicago doesn't require SAT IIs? Aren't they recommended though?

Chicago doesn't even recommend them, like some schools (which is essentially the same thing as saying you better submit them) - that's not to say they don't welcome you submitting the scores though. They consider them, but not that heavily. In other words, if your SAT I is good they won't count against you for not having SAT IIs, but if you have good SAT IIs submitting them can only help you.

Thank you for correcting and providing information. It's appreciated.

Oberlin, Kenyon, Whitman, Occidental, Dickinson --- and many other LAC's don't require the SAT II's.

Cornell College of Agriculture and Life Sciences does not require SAT IIs. Most of the Patriot League schools "recommend but do not require" them. But the application deadline for all of these schools is long since past; you might start with a school such as Franklin & Marshall which has a March 1 deadline and work back from there (the application deadline date) to see if the school requires SAT IIs.

Suka, many good universities do not require the SAT IIs. Chicago, Georgetown, Michigan, Notre Dame to name a few. But low SAT I scores may make it difficult to get into any of those 4 schools.

are you on the facebook? i think i found you as an alumnus at a certain college that ends in the letter "L"

There is now a HUGE number of top schools that take the ACT in place of the SAT I AND the SAT IIs. There have been several threads on this - I can't name them all but they include BC, Duke, Tufts, Amherst, Pomona, and many* more, including Ivies (Yale, Brown, Penn).

Check the websites. A LOT of colleges are changing over this year as well, because ACT added the writing test.

I guess I'm wrong then, thank you for the correction nedad.

I wasn't trying to be hard on you - I just wanted to encourage any students who didn't want to take so many tests! :)

i dont know if anyone mentioned this but nyu doesn't..preferred but optional

Claremont McKenna doesn't require the SAT II's...but the deadline passed =/
