AHHHHH
Earlier today I received a phone call from the regional advisor for my area asking if I wanted to change my application to another school: from CAS to Wharton. I was so excited that I can’t remember her exact words, but she said something along the lines of:

“The Committee has reviewed your application carefully and we feel that a student with your talents would be an asset to the Wharton School.”

I started an NPO, so I can see how that can be considered entrepreneur-like.

My point: has this ever happened to anyone? Does Penn do this?
Is this the equivalent of a “likely” phone call?

Also, I really just want to go into international relations and international development. At the same time, I recognize the prestige of the Wharton School.
Would it be viewed negatively if I chose to keep my application to CAS?

I would think it is a good sign. You should, however, apply to the school that you really prefer. As Wharton is statistically a harder school to be admitted to, I would think that your chances are very good for CAS. It would also seem unusually cruel to bait and switch you to Wharton only to eventually be rejected. Since they initiated the conversation, I would speak quite frankly to the regional advisor about your application status. For instance, if Penn is your first choice, tell her so. Politely, ask her if a likely letter is in the cards and would applying to Wharton be riskier for you. If you handle the next conversation properly, I think you will have a much better feel for the purpose of their call.

I agree with 212DAD. You can ask the regional advisor about teh possibility of a likely letter. be at ease. My son spoke with his regional advisor in 2005 (he graduated from Penn in 2010) during campus visit and she was so encouraging and helpful… So be at ease and ask him/her directly and politely.

I believe that this is a good sign. If you don’t mind, I was wondering what your stats/extracurriculars is? (to catch their attention like that) :P

I will definitely ask about the likely letter. And thanks everyone for the advice!
