Good small colleges?

Hi, I'm going to be a senior this fall and I'm looking for good small colleges (below 10,000) that have a great computer science program (wouldn't mind if they had a software engineering program as well.) A nice campus is also a want
My GPA is at 3.4 UW but steadily increasing
Taking 4 APs next year
And my SAT score is 1920 but hoping it will go up in October. I've done extensive searches but none that has truly caught my eye. Thanks in advanced!

Hmm for computer science… Okay I’m not entirely sure if the name but it’s something like Frank and Olin college…

That would be a reach for me

Location? Budget?

Almost every college offers computer science, so your choice should probably come down to overall fit.

I live in New Jersey so anything within a 5 hour drive.
Budget doesn’t matter to me but I’d really like a school that focuses on cs

Do you really mean it that budget doesn’t matter? Some parents say they will pay, but when they actually see the cost they really don’t want to spend as much as $60K per year. You need to run the net price calculator at schools you are interested in and show your parents just to make sure they really understand the cost.

If you want a liberal arts college that offers a comp sci major, you might consider Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall, or Trinity (CT). Bucknell is a little larger, also in PA. Or Lehigh.

Yes I do my dads a surgeon and already put my sister through college

^ good answer.

RPI might be a reach but doable. Union College is worth considering. Unconventional choice, but check out Bryant in RI. Primarily a business school, so their computer program focuses on integration of computers/tech and business. Real modern high-tech campus.

UIUC and Case western.

^ great schools, but both more than 5 hours from NJ. UIUC is also way more than 10k students.

Thank you! Will check them out

I would get some college guide books and start researching. You can also get the USNWR list of engineering schools (don’t love their rankings always, but it may be a good list of schools).

Some smaller mid-sized schools with engineering that I know of offhand (some would be reaches for you) are: Union (NY), Trinity (CT), Lafayette ¶, Bucknell ¶, Lehigh ¶, Villanova ¶, Worcester Polytechnic (MA), RIT (NY), Manhattan College (NY), Stevens Institute of Technology (NJ), Clarkson (NY).

Clark University in Worcester, MA.

What about Brandeis?

That’s something of a reach ([Common Data Set | Institutional Research | Brandeis University](http://www.brandeis.edu/opir/institutionalresearch/cds.html)), but the do have Comp Sci.

Brandies and University of Rochester are excellent choices. (Though Rochester is a little more than 5 hours drive, more like 7).

thank you for replying
just wondering if there are anymore I could look into

Yes, if you use the college search tool here on CC you will find tons of CS schools. The more criteria you put it, the more it narrows it down.
You should consider whether you want a more tech-focused school or a liberal arts school or a small university or even a business-oriented school like Bentley.
You can find good CS programs at all types.
Do you have any preferences for school types? Other academic interests?

Have you looked at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County? It has slightly less than 11k students but it is a really excellent CS school, is within your 5 hour range and would probably be an academic match.

I’m really don’t have a preference to what type of school it is. As for other academic interests, it would be great if the school had a software engineering major, but that’s difficult to come by

Thanks!
