hey guys,

so i have an interview for harvard coming up soon. what are good, intelligent questions to ask the interviewer? like questions to show that youre curious, love the school, know about the school, etc? what kinds of questions did you ask? how many do you ask?

The best questions to ask are ones that you come up with yourself and that you are genuinely curious about after you take a close look at the Harvard website.

Questions that you get from other people would be a waste of time.

If you have to rely on other people to figure out what questions to ask then you don’t sound like the type of person for whom Harvard would be a good match.

northstarmom, i do have a bunch of questions, but im not sure if theyre too simple and will annoy my interviewer. ive gone through the website and book and i really love the school, so i guess its not really the “intelligent-ness” of your questions, but just the fact that your being curious and asking questions, even if they seem simple, and showing a passion for the school.

Harvard doesn’t care if you show a passion for the school. It knows that it’s the first choice of the overwhelming majority of its applicants.

Harvard does care if you can think. Students at Harvard are known for their individuality. Consequently, if you’re obsessing about what questions to ask your interviewer, Harvard may not be a good match for you. It’s a great match for people who are willing to follow their own bliss and to ask whatever questions that interest them.

I think some stupid questions are on everyone’s mind when they apply to college. Like I’ve asked what the food is like for practically everyone of my college interviews, and it seems kind of dumb, but the interviewers were happy to answer.

Of course, I wouldn’t flood them with questions, but at the same time, I wouldn’t ask none.

I always like asking:

So what about your experience at “X University” made you like it enough to decide to interview for it?

Ask about the undergrad experience, housing, food etc. Ask about the majors or the teachers and staff.

One question that I really want to ask is, “How has your life changed since you graduated from Harvard?”

If your honestly curious it shouldn’t matter how simple the questions are.

"Ask about the undergrad experience, housing, food etc. Ask about the majors or the teachers and staff. "

If the alum is not a recent grad, just don’t expect them to be able to answer questions about what the food, housing and current faculty is like.
