Kiss The Rain - Yiruma

just something that doesn`t have lyrics to distract me.

I can listen to anything while studying, but I do agree that lyrics (especially clearly-articulated ones that tend to get drilled into the head) are distracting, which is why I listen to alot of instrumentals and foreign songs.

i heard studying with music makes you smarter or recall stuff quicker...

True/False?

Pink Floyd

False, you just get more distracted. We got a study skills guide at the beginning of the year that had some figures associated with that, but I can't find it at the moment.

It sort of makes sense, though. If you are listening to music you are either concentrating on the music and not absorbing the material, or you are absorbing the material and using energy to block the music out. I don't think your brain can do both at the same time.

Eh. When you're doing mindless work, like math, you want music to keep yourself from... falling asleep because Calculus BC is evil.

Aqualung!

I do homework to CNN usually. But if I'm on the computer I listen to classical.

Best:
Anything celtic (Nova Scotia mostly)... Natalie MacMaster, Buddy MacMaster, the Beatons, Brenda Stubbert, Howie MacDonald, Mac Morin. It gets my toes tapping but doesn't have any distracting lyrics.

OK:
Classical is good, but as a musician I get into separating the intrument parts out to see what I would be playing (violin, viola, or flute) and then it's distracting.
Every-day music - the Beatles, Arcarde Fire, Belle Orchestre (<-- is awesome!), Green Day, Coldplay, the Goo Goo Dolls, etc.

Bad:
Sountracks from musicals - I ALWAYS end up singing along! Oh man, its good to be a music/choir nerd.

A good studying Cd to listen to is europop by eiffel 65... It's the cd with the song "blue" from 2000 or something. It's techno I think

Brit Pop! Elliot Smith, Jack Johnson, Arcade Fire.. all relatively quiet and peaceful. Haha.. I also listen to Deathcab and Radiohead when I study.

Ahh for most subjects I need more upbeat stuff. Funeral for a Friend, Taking Back Sunday, Head Automatica, Hot Hot Heat, Motion City Soundtrack, etc.

But then for other subjects I need more mellow stuff. Death Cab, Jack Johnson, Aqualung, Sarah McLachlan, Coldplay, Bright Eyes...

RodLo...Panic! At the Disco is awesome! My favorite song is "Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off" .. name some of their best songs..I just recently found out about them.

Hmm..i usually listen to something soft and in the background, such as death cab, elliott smith, rufus wainwright, augustana, mae, imogen heap, frou frou, zero 7, maria mena, natalie imbruglia, plain white t's, the spill canvas, waking ashland etc. mostly popular indie stuff.

We have an world music interest group at our school and we made a mellow relax/study/sleep mix this year. It doesn't include a lot of words b/c they are distracting.
