What are some good speech topics to inspire/persuade?

I've already chosen drunk driving, but I think someone else is doing that one already? *What would be another topic that is something that both students and adults would care about today? What is something that affects your heart and emotions, and that will definitely grab that audience into further listening to your speech? *

As for drunk driving, I'm probably going to show pictures of people resulting from drunk driving collisions; you know, the really nasty ones =/

Um....
Global Warming?
Abortion?
Gay Marriage?
Iraq war?
Iran?
North Korea?
Cancer, any type but Breast will probably be the best?
2008 election?
Some endangered animal?
Health care?
Terrorism?
Religion; any?
Evolution?
Intelligent Design?
Hurricanes?
China;Military & Economy, Friend or Foe?
China&Taiwan issues?
The federal defecit?
Affirmative action?
Feminism?
Gender equality?
African American rights?
Government spying?

Or basically go to one of the 08 candidates sites and write about one of the issues they bring up, you don't have to take their position if you disagree with them.

Thanks for the ideas. Any other topics? Should I do it on global warming? It seems like a pretty good topic because there are a lot of solution ideas for it. I'm also fairly knowledgeable about what types of problems cause it to happen (pollution, CO2, etc.)

By the way, are there any sites that take you right to the 08 Candidates' speeches? Where can I find the "text" version of their speeches? Thanks.

I believe you should try the Salman Rushdie knighthood case or just write a speech how russia is killing off its ex KGB's. My advice would be to choose an international topic that would draw in the audiences interest.

ontheissues.org has some quotes you could use. But, I don't know where you could find text speeches...Try the candidate's sites.(LOL..I didn't realize you were Canadian so I don't think a speech about US Candidates is going to attract many people in your audience)

Hehe, that is true but I think your idea of making a speech on a topic of US candidates is a good idea. I think I know one that talks about global warming, and evolution too!?

Anyways, I'm writing my speech right now and I always think that it can have some polishing. I'm that good or experienced at speeches so I'm not really sure how to word somethings. Do you guys mind helping me out with how to say this? (I'm need to say what source I used in the speech):

The source that I’m extracting all of my information from is the book ____.

or

The information that I'm providing you all is based on the book _____.

What other way do I think I can say it more smoothly and naturally? Thanks.

Does it have to be based on a book? Or I could you say you found it online?
The only book I know out there by a candidate is Audacity of Hope by Obama.

I might be spectacularly bad at speech, but global warming doesn't exactly tug at the audience's heartstrings the same way, say, an emotive, over the top speech about a nanny does. Private school kids, honestly.

if you do, in fact, do global warming, at least some of the people you're giving the speech to aren't going to agree with what you're saying. my $0.02

Also, I'm not really sure how I should tell my audience my sources during my speech (it is required that we do).

I'm bad at wording things like this. Ways that I've thought: I've based my speech from two sources: the book ____ by ____ and an internet source _____ by _____

Is there a better way to word this so that it will sound more better to the audience?
