Ok, so here is the deal. I go to a private school where grades are SUPER deflated, especially in the humanities. My Latin/English teachers never give grades above 90. Coupled with the fact that the social sciences aren't exactly my forte (I'm still decent at them though, as evidenced by SATs, etc...), my humanities grades are astonishingly low (85-90 in all of them). Nevertheless, I'm still rank #1/45.

I hope the SATII's show how rigorous/grade deflated our school is, but I'm worried that my 3.6ish is going to stick out like a sore thumb, when in reality I put a ton of time into my work. Also all my AP scores so far are good too:

AP Calc BC: 5
AP Stat: 5
AP Physics B: 5
AP Chemistry: 5
AP US History: 4

All in all, do you think I'll get in? Do colleges discriminate against "elite" prep schools... because they assume we're snobs (aka do colleges stereotype against private schools)?

…well by the tone of your post on another thread telling an OP that his getting a 660 on a subject test is really bad…I’d be careful that an elilist attitude doesn’t come through in your application via your own essays.

I saw that post and understand why he said “really bad.” The physics SAT II has such a huge curve, that a 660 is like getting 35/75 on the actual test, and that is pretty bad to be honest.

Adcoms will look at your school profile and compare you with your peers that way. On your GC recommendation letter, he/she will also check off if you are top 1 or 5 percent in your class. If you are 1/45 then it really doesn’t matter you have 3.65 GPA. On the flip side, if you have 4.0 and over 10 percent of students have 4.5, then it is not great. You also have good test scores to substantiate your mastering of those courses. I think you will be fine.

In an ideal scenario, the adcoms are supposed to know your school, how it grades, how you did in relation to your peers etc. If adcoms are telling the truth about their holistic approach and that the difficulty of the school comes into decisions then it shouldnt hurt u.

But on the other hand, if adcoms are sneaky little s.o.b’s, then it might be a problem since they don’t want to decrease their average acceptee g.p.a or something like that.

I forgot to mention that since there are only 45 students in your class, that is kind of bad. This is the kind of scenario where test scores come into play, and act as a large part in decisions.
