Good Summer Programs for a H.S. Freshman?

<p>All of the good academic programs are either for Sophomore-Senior or have expired deadlines. Are there any that would be recommended for me?</p>

<p>A little about me....</p>

<p>ACT composite ( all ACTs taken in 8th grade): 28
ACT math: 27
ACT reading: 28
ACT science: 29</p>

<p>SAT results in next week. </p>

<p>I am in a program at MSU called CHAMP, which is pretty much just four years of math in two years. I took Algebra I and II in 8th grade, and Geometry/Precalc in 9th grade (currently in Pre-calc).</p>

<p>I took Biology online over the summer to free up my schedule, and I have a 4.0.</p>

<p>I'm the founder of my school's Political club, I am the team captain of our school's NOAA team, and I'm a Student Council Member. </p>

<p>I'm kinda extremely motivated. My parent's think I'm completely insane, but whatever. xP</p>

<p>I'm hoping to get into an Ivy League when I'm a senior, but I don't want this summer experience just to look good to Harvard. I actually want to learn something. </p>

<p>With your ACT scores in 8th grade, you could be qualified for the Davidson Institute’s THINK summer program. My daughter did it for 2 summers and LOVED it. You take two college courses in three weeks (and get college credit through University of Nevada-Reno). It is incredibly intense, and you are with a super bright group of students. Apps are due by November 1. PM me if you have more questions about the program.</p>

<p>You sound just like me, the whole total insane motivation :slight_smile: </p>

<p>Well, this year I applied to a program called JSA (Junior Statesmen of America) </p>

<p>Depending on where and for which course you apply, the dates of the program vary. But I would say they are all between 3 to 5 weeks long. </p>

<p>So what you do is choose a course to study for the time you are there. They have courses like international relations (I’m doing that one at stanford), ap gov., ap macro (or was it micro?), ap history, speech and debate, etc. etc. It is basically an intense summer course for which you get credit. There are lectures, tests, essays, etc. </p>

<p>These programs are held at stanford, georgetown, princeton, and then there is also one in china. </p>

<p>Last summer, I did Summer@Brown and it was an incredible experience. Everyone there was so dedicated, friendly, and fun to be around. I learned a lot and had a great time in Providence. So you should apply to that next year when you’re a sophomore!</p>

<p>How coincidental, my cousins live in Georgetown! I’ll check it out. </p>

<p>I would love to spend a summer at Brown, and it isn’t outrageously expensive. I’ll compare the courses and see if anything interests me. </p>
