Good Summer Programs in Writing/Humanities for Upcoming Sophomores

Hi everyone

I am looking for a summer program recommendation for my D. She is in 9th grade right now. She has done Explo for 2 years and CTY last year. She had a great time in all the camps, but she is interested in doing something different.

She is particularly interested in writing - something like Writing Workshop is ideal, but also interested in thing like Psychology. Can anyone recommend good program where she can have a good learning experience and also have a good time? If a program is well known enough to be helpful for college admin, it would be nice, but it is not our primary objective. For it to be helpful for that purpose, looks like that it has to be super competitive and the ones I have seen are more science oriented and/or not for sophomores. We are not looking for college credits either, and we are looking at maybe 3 to 4 weeks.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Cheers.

i was also interested in summer writing programs before senioritis hit, so i have some suggestions

the columbia university program is great. (the link: High School Program - Summer in New York City NYC : Columbia University : School of Continuing Education : Courses) my friend loved it and her time at columbia helped her develop a creative writing piece for...

the iowa young writer's program. this writing program is very selective. people go there to write, not really to have a good time. it's iowa after all. ;)

if your daughter has an interest in traveling to foreign places, the oxbridge academic programs could work for her. (link: The Oxford Tradition) she could decide to major/minor in creative writing/psychology.

Take a look at the National Book Foundation link below. It lists all sorts of writing programs.
