good things about unc asheville

can people write good things about unc asheville/ any downside for a student from out of state?
thanks!

My daughter started at UNCA this year and absolutely loves it and is happy with her choice. We are in-state but last weekend we went to Family Weekend and I met several people whose kids go there from out of state. I spoke to a couple from Brooklyn NY and their daughter is very happy. It's a small school with about 3400 students and Asheville is a really beautiful place with a very 'arty' atmosphere. All of my daughter's classes have about 20 students of less in them, so she gets good interaction with all her professors.
She says everyone there is friendly, too. The people I met from Brooklyn said they heard about UNCA from The Princeton Review which gave it very high ratings and also I've read that it was praised in US New & World Report.
What does your student want to major in or what are his/her interests?

Oops, just realized this thread was from 2006! UNCA is a good school anyway! So check it out!

i had the same question so thanks for answering! its exactly what i wanted to hear.

I realize these posts are from years ago but do you think you could tell me anything about UNCA?

Hi,
so I live in Maine and I’m planning on attending UNCA in the fall and I’ve never even been to North Carolina so I’m kind of going into this whole thing blind. I know this post is about 5 years old but could anyone tell me somethings about the campus. Like is it close to the city? Are there a lot of diversity in the students? What sort of ammenitites are on campus? All the kind of stuff.

My D and I visited several years ago after she had been accepted (2008 to be exact).
Beautiful area and very nice campus. I did not get a friendly feeling from admissions. They were polite, just not friendly.
Beautiful campus, beautiful city, lovely weather. At the time, the tour guide did admit it was somewhat of a suitcase campus. She also said though, that there was great academic support, and she raved about her teachers. Walking there is a little tough for the unfit like me. It’s all up and downhill
That’s about all I can remember. I hope that helps.
My D decided to go there because she felt a little out of place. Not much diversity on campus. We came across one African American, and one Asian American and our tour group was all Caucasian with us being the exception.

You are probably there already. We visited last week and thought everything looked great except possibly the library. LLLOOObVVVVEEE Asheville - great feeling.
