I got admitted to Cal for next year, as did someone else I know. This other person said something about some day in mid to late april when kids who received admission to Cal can spend the night in the dorms and get a feel for the place. As I still don’t have a great feel for the people at Berkeley, I would love to participate in something like this. Problem, I don’t know anything about it. If anyone knows, please give me some more info. Thanks.

is that for alumni semifinalists?

the alumni semi's have a program called OSP - Overnight Stay Program for 100 people...it filled up within 5 minutes of its opening...I missed out :(

Just go to Cal Day on Saturday, April 16th.
http://www.berkeley.edu/calday/

It's not an overnight stay but is designed to provide a lot of information for incoming freshmen and others. It's really an open house for the entire community.

I applied for the OSP program and was accepted; does that mean I'm an Alumni Semifinalist?

no idea, I was e-mailed that I was an alumni semi-finalist on April 1, then e-mailed ** again ** about OSP (excerpt of second e-mail follows)

"Congratulations on being a Semifinalist for the Alumni Scholarship! As a service to you, current recipients of the Alumni Scholarship have put together a program called the Overnight Stay Program to help you decide to come to Cal!

OSP is a two-day program from Monday, April 18, 2005 - Tuesday, April 19, 2005. During these two days you will have the opportunity to stay in a dorm, meet other prospective scholars, explore the campus and the community, and see all that Cal and the Alumni Scholarship have to offer. The program is limited to 100 prospective Alumni Scholars. For more information about the program and to learn how to sign-up, please visit the OSP homepage"

I haven't received any e-mail from Berkeley in the past two weeks--ever since my father installed some pesky spam filter. I'm afraid I might have been nominated for this scholarship, unbeknownst to me. Sheisse. Time to call them.

oh, Mandragora, it's not a nomination; you apply in february

I'm very confused. So I definitely didn't apply for any scholarships besides maybe some random, hilarious ones I checked on the UC application in November ("Promises not to pledge for a fraternity, other than an honors society?? Uhh... check?"). I haven't received any mail regarding an Alumni Scholarship, either. I just noticed an invitation to apply for the Overnight Stay Program on my "Events" page on the MyBerkeleyApp website. I sent the necessary forms, logged on today, and was accepted.

So is the program open to all students? Or just Alumni Semifinalists?

no u have to be an alumni semifinalist! damn you taking our spots!!! and you aren't one because it was an application you had to fill out. somewhat tedious. well, not relaly. but yeah. i got invited to fill it out. and i felt special.

no, mandragora, your osp is probably a different one and offered for a different reason (probably just cause they like you so much)
what days are it? the alumni one is 18-19

Ahhh, okay. That makes sense, since mine is 14-16 (I leave right after the Cal Day activities).

I'm attending an Overnight Host Program. Cal is paying for the flight and everything.

lucky eiffelguy! what is this through?

The Overnight Host Program exposes new students to UC Berkeley through the eyes of real Cal students. Through the Overnight Host Program, you stay with a volunteer host in their residence hall and get a firsthand look at student life. During your stay you will have the opportunity to explore the Berkeley campus, attend classes and seminars, connect with campus resources, meet other new students, and see Cal from a current students perspective.

awesome :)

hey eiffelguy! i'm going too. i just got my confirmation. i was starting to wonder when it was going to come.

mandragora:The program we're going to has nothing to do with the OSP. So I don't think you're a semifinalist since you didn't fill out the separate app.
