Good topics for the UC essays?

How do these possible essay topics sound for the UC personal statement?

Here is the prompts in case you forgot:

Prompt 1- Describe the world you come from — for example, your family, community or school — and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.

Prompt 2- Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud, and how does it relate to the person you are?

For prompt one I was going to base the essay around all the places I have lived growing up, and how the world or community that I come from is really a diverse mix of all the places I moved to or from in my life (my family did a lot of moving). I was then going to talk about how moving has shaped me as a person and taught me about accepting change, and learning to grow from change.

For prompt two I was going elaborate on one of my personal qualities; which is my love of sports, and discuss how my passion has led me to work hard in other endeavors off the athletic field such as my academics, community service, etc..

Also, is it ok to include quotes in our personal statement; perhaps as an attention getter, at the conclusion, or even in the body of the essay?

Any help I could get would be great, and if anyone has a sample essay I could view to get an idea of how to outline personal statement that would be awesome as well.

Bump.............

bump please.....

INteresting topics, I actually am doing kind of the opposite but rethinking what I'm doing after reading this. I too moved around but was going to use that as my experience and my love of journalism as my world.

Actually, after reading your post Stacie, I may change my essays around too. To me moving would seem like a better fit for experiences and sports would do well for my world and aspirations.

Thanks for your help!

No problem, glad I could help. This is why I love the boards, bouncing off ideas of one another is very useful
