Hi everyone, I’m trying to strategize my college plan to find my dream school. I know I want to do business or econ and eventually get an MBA so my undergrad does matter but not as much as my graduate college. I know Penn and UC Berkley are great options but I was wondering what other ones are in the list, preferably listed from least expensive to most.
A few quick comments:
–It is important to understand that economics and finance are very different majors. Economics is a liberal arts course of study and gets very theoretical at the upper levels. In contrast if you go to an undergraduate business school you will take a business core with introductory classes in subjects such as accounting, finance, IT, marketing etc. and then you will major in one of those disciplines. I would take the time to look at the coursework (can be found online) for both a finance and an economics major and see if one path is preferable to you.
–Literally hundreds of schools can fit your current requirements. It is unreasonable to expect people to list such a huge number of schools.
–Think about what you want in a college (size, location, anything else like Greek life, sports etc.).
–Have you discussed things with your parents and determined if you have any limitations on your college choices (ex. money, geography, anything else).
–What can you afford? What is your home state?
–Don’t find your “dream school.” Instead focus on finding a wide range of choices including reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable and where you could be happy.
–Top MBA programs expect that applicants work 2-5 years before applying so don’t expect that you will go directly to grad school after undergrad.
In addition to all of the above questions:
- If you do business which concentration do you want to do?
- When you're talking about economics you can have a more theoretical MA program, a more applied MS program, or a program in straight up "Applied economics". Have you looked into these and which are you open to?
