Hi, I am an Asian Male living in New Jersey.

I'm hoping to major in econ/finance and looking to apply to some Ivy-Level econ programs.

I really want to go to Columibia and really like the campus.

It has a good location in NYC, but confused as to which school, CC or SEAS, offers the economics major. How good is columbia's econ/finance department?

Some other schools I have been looking at, Northwestern, UChicago, NYU Stern, Duke, Cornell.

I was just wondering about some other schools with good econ/finance undergrads?

Also what would some good safties with good econ undergrads?

You seemed to have overlooked an obvious choice: Penn (University of Pennsylvania).

For an undergraduate finance concentrator, Penn's Wharton School is universally ranked #1 in the country, if not the world.

For an economics major, the economics department in Penn's College of Arts and Sciences is ranked among the top 10 in the country.

Plus, if you are interested in a business focus, Wharton couses in other top-rated business departments (management, accounting, marketing, real estate, etc.) would be available for you to take as a student in either the Wharton School or the College of Arts and Sciences.

And of course, Penn is a highly ranked Ivy League university with one of the nicest urban campuses in the country, and offers an excellent social and extracurricular life for its students.

^ Columbia College ain't exactly easy to get into, either!

Nevertheless, if you felt Wharton was too much of a reach, Penn's College of Arts and Sciences would be a good alternative because, as I said, its economics department is generally ranked in the top 10 (in fact, usually above Columbia's!), and you could still take plenty of Wharton courses as a student in the College.

Chicago is a target school for ibanks/consulting firms. You don't necessarily have to do the econ major. There's something called the Math with Specialization in economics, which I think would be perfect for any future finance wannabe.

I'm particularly drawn to Columbia because of its Financial Engineering program. But I haven't narrowed down my major to that yet. But I'm fairly certain I want to econ/finance.

also does anyone know if you're applying to econ/finance in general at columbia, is it CC or SEAS? I know financial engineering is at SEAS.

Also, what are some good safety schools that have good econ programs?
