Good Verbal School. Terrible Quant Score. Humanities MA Program

Hi everyone,

I just took the GRE today. So far, I know I got 162 on the verbal section - which is the 90th percentile from my understanding. However, my quantitative score is pretty bad, as I didn’t prepare very much for it - 147.

I am applying to Middle East studies master’s programs at reputable universities at the moment. Is it correct to doubt, given that I will not be taking classes or doing work that has to do with math at all, that they will care about my bad quant score? That was sort of why I decided to focus more on prepping for verbal + writing (I don’t know my writing score yet). My general impression has been that the GRE as a whole is the least important component of applying to these kinds of programs.

What are your thoughts?

I don’t think that your quantitative score will affect you MASSIVELY in the eyes of these programs. If you’re able to do well on verbal and writing, that can offset the not as good quant. score. If your grade are good, you should have no problem getting into some of the better grad. schools. I’m not too familiar with Middle Eastern studies, but I don’t think you’ll have any issues. (Sorry if this seems repetitive!)
