I've made a handful of postings here but for the most part I am just an observer. I don't know if this forum has been helpful in the process or a needless distraction. After all the "chances" threads and all the anxiety and speculation it often seems that the individual college websites offer more useful info then what is offered here. My son got into a good school and we are all happy with his descision. What stands out here is the community spirit and the genuine empathy and helpfullness. We all should be proud of our children whom we are passing the torch to. This is about them and their future. Now all that's left for me to do is pay for it, and I suspect that no-one here is willing to help me out with that one. So I will leave with my thanks to everyone who took the time to write, congratulate, tell jokes, offer advice or just listen. Peace

56forceout,

I hope that your son has an amazing experience at MIT (bummer, you are not coming to hanover as I needed someone to reel me in :)) . Hey one step closer to reclaiming the house.

Oh please please stick around because there are still conversations to be had about XL sheets, egg crates, feather beds and how in the world are we suppose to get all of that stuff to school.

I am quite sure that you have a joke or 2 that we haven't heard.

Not to mention discussions about the best cell phone plans and how to handle "empty nest syndrome"..... plus those, "I dropped Johnny off at school and cried the entire 12-hour drive home" posts that let you know that you are not alone! :)

CONGRATULATIONS to your son on his successful college application process and his selected school! I wish him all the best for a happy and successful next four years!

Do come by now and again. Everyone brings his/her unique experience and knowledge to this wonderful site. I am sure that we would all welcome your input!

56forceout: Congrats. Sure there are congrats to your S, but I actually meant congrats to you for going cold turkey. My D has made her selection, but I can't seem to call it quits on CC. I think I'll have to go the weaning route!

Parents who have gotten great info here, don't leave. The parents and students who still have the application process could benefit from your wisdom. Please give back as you have received. :)

The problem I've found is that the kids often don't read the college websites or the instruction page to the applications, but come on this site and ask a question. I suppose we fill a need. . .

Northstarmom: Good point; I totally intend to give back. And with acceptances now in D's hands, I actually even feel semi-qualified to do so! I just need to cut back from 2 packs of CC a day to something a bit more reasonable - say a pack and a half or (gasp) only a pack... (:

LOL Love your "2 packs of CC a day" line!!! So...is there a "patch" or something that we can get to help us reduce our "habit"?? Was lurking akin to "secondary" posting?? There is no doubt that this became addictive--but I have found CC to be incredibly helpful-----THANKS to all who have opened up to share thoughts, concerns, ideas, etc.!!!!

Only two packs of CC? Some of us smoke the whole carton, and we have to spend $36 bucks restocking on our daily fix of CC.

This place is more addictive than nicotine.
