Goodbye Uncommon App?

I heard that the University of Chicago is changing their application process next year to a common app-type thing, but still keeping some interesting questions. Is this true or have I been misinformed?

It's true. If you thought this year's EA pool was a flood, wait until Chicago becomes a common app school.

They are joining the Common Application, but keeping their Uncommon Essays as a required supplement.

Its just not the same... If you ask me the common app is way more confusing because you have to abide by both common app's rules and the member institutions.

They will still offer the uncommon app, no?

Lame......

I hope the uncommon app survives as a choice along with the common. Many schools let one apply with their own or the common.

yeah lame
maybe they want more applicants and a lower admit rate so their ranking goes up.

so people next year have to do 2 major essays (common app and then the uncommon questions)?

I support the changeover, just because more and more great students are applying to more and more schools and the common app helps streamline the process. The supplement with questions will remain the same, and I guess students will probably have the option to fill out the university's own application.

Secondly, Chicago's changeover to the common app doesn't have anything to do with a change in the mission or personality of the school (some think it does). Schools like Reed and Harvey Mudd also take common app-- they are still as goofy and as oddball as ever despite the "common" format of their application.

I rather liked the uncommon app-

it's like uchicago playing hard-to-get.

Hahahahaha-- but if you play too hard-to-get, then you run the risk of turning people off too much.

Personally, I found the uncommon app fun to fill out, and it helped put me in the Chicago mentality, whereas the common app had no personality to it. But I don't think most people agree with me.

But if you turn too many people on you turn into the class whore-
Everyone does it cause it's easy-
Uchicago- The whore of 2012?

I hope not!

Well I hate common app, and it is very sad to see UChicago turning to common app next year.

It simplifies the process. But the essays will still be required, so...
