goofy mom question

My ds has submitted REA for Stanford. He has also submitted RD at another Common App school which did not have a supplement. From the other school he received a confirmation snail mail letter thanking him for submitting his Common App, decisions would be April 1, etc. and that all his other materials needed to be by whatever the date is in January. This other school also has a portal where he can see what they have received including test scores. Does Stanford send some sort of confirmation that they have received your Common App? Do they have some way for a student to check if all the materials have been received? How do you know if everything got there?? I'm sure that's a paranoid mom kind of question. :) I am old, and I really liked that PAPER snail mail letter ('cause I can put it in a nice manila folder!) from the other school as well as the ability my ds has to double check everything through that other school's portal.

You can still have your son print the app and put it in your manila folder. In fact, I hope he printed and proofread a copy before submission. Not sure about the answer to your question, but I assume they have a portal like every other top college does these days. Someone else will be able to answer that.

^Ha ha! Good idea!

Yes, he print previewed before submission. Both dh and I read through it individually as did ds for any typos.

I think they will. All the other schools my D applied sent an e-mail with link and login information for tracking. There are 2 schools (including Stanford) that have not done that yet but I know at least one would take another week to send the e-mail. When did she submit the CommonApp to Stanford?

I think it was just this past weekend - maybe Saturday or Sunday??

I applied REA last year. Got an email about a week after I submitted my application providing a link to Axess (axess.stanford.edu), which enables one to check the status of his/her submitted materials. It may take more than a week since your son submitted his app so early.

^Thanks. He submitted a music supplement so it had to be early. I was kind of glad he did it on the early side of early, though! I kept reading about so many glitches with the Common App - I wanted some cushion built in. Goofy and OCD! ;)

Yes, there are so many glitches on CommonApp. And it seems it is getting worse every day. Glad that the first 2 application was submitted smoothly a week ago.

From what I can tell, they haven’t even downloaded the submitted applications from the Common App. My son submitted back in August, and still no email or letter. Since Naviance was(is still?) screwed up, we had the school send paper versions of counselor rec, school report, transcripts, and teacher recs. There is a “contact us” section on Stanford’s website where one of the prompts is “check if materials sent were received.” Don’t bother. You get a canned blunt response saying we are too busy to check on anything. So, you wait for that email that will link you to the school portal.
