We’re in the same boat - if anyone would like to connect to talk further about applying in the fall, please message me!
Or connect with me on LinkedIn so we could talk there : Aidan Sova.
Yeah sure! I go to a non-target technological university (think Colorado School of Mines, SD School of Mines, etc.). I have a 3.66 GPA and am majoring in Information Science with a minor in business.
I previously interned at AT&T and will be joining Accenture this summer. On campus, I co-founded 2 tech clubs, have 5 additional exec positions, and have a lot of school community involvement as a student ambassador and mentor. I’ve won a handful of hackathons and case competitions, and I’ve attended a few other insight programs at various companies.
Unlike a lot of people, I actually wrote my essay the night before the due date and submitted it without any review. My essay talked about being from the rural Midwest and how I always felt and was treated like an outcast at conferences filled with Ivy League kids and the like. My background is extremely tech heavy, so I wrote a bunch about how all my interests stem from an inherent love for people, mentorship, and community building, and at Google I want to help recruit people like me from non-targets. I also talked about my interest in diversity recruting (specifically LGBTQ+), and how I once visited the Mountain View campus with my family and accidentally passed out in a nap pod.
The reason I submitted mine last minute was because, ironically, I didn’t think I had any chance of getting in due to being from an extreme non-target. Lesson learned though, and if you got rejected, don’t feel discouraged! Hopefully we all will be BOLD interns next summer.
Well done for getting in!! I am just wondering has anyone who applied to the EMEA programme heard anything? I know they said we will hear back by June so still got a lot of time
Oh wow, @miner13 well I mean starting TWO tech clubs and the fact that you’re even going to conferences with ivy league students shows why Google wanted you in the <5% accepted! fun fact less people (%) are accepted into Bold immersion than UPenn! Anyways, you may have a low GPA, but AT&T, Accenture AND GOOGLE? Maybe I should transfer from Wharton to your non-target school lol. The people from UPenn (& other ivies) that do immersion are always wicked smart and end up in Google or McKinsey or the government so props
I got another “hang tight” email. It says “Thank you for your patience while our team continues to review applications! In the meantime, continue to learn more about Google as a company, our culture, and our business initiatives.” I heard alot of the people already got either rejected or accepted. What does this mean for me? I mean its already April.
@BigFishSmallC Haha thanks! Appreciate the kind words. I don’t think Google puts a lot of weight on GPA, and I also think submitting a transcript was helpful because my GPA took a slight dip in exchange for more involvement.
In regards to my university, there’s pros and cons I think being at an actual business school would’ve helped me a lot with connections and recruiting - I have to do a ton of Google searching and LinkedIn DMing to get my foot into top companies since no-one recruits where I’m at. It’s also a big crapshoot - for every conference I get invited to, there’s probably like 5 or 10 that I get rejected from (I got two rejections from Capital One the same day I got the Immersion offer lol).
On the other hand, it’s nice that my school isn’t competitive (I am literally the only person here that goes for stuff like this); a lot of the Wharton kids I’ve met are super chill, but the stories I hear about competitiveness is something I don’t think I could ever thrive in. Also, it feels really good gaining connections from a bunch of companies because it helps get my school on the map, which is awesome because my school itself is full of so much talent but limited opportunity.
