Hey,
I haven’t seen a thread on CC about Google’s CSSI program for 2019. I finished my application last week, even though it’s a very long shot.
I wanted to know if anyone here is applying for it?

Hey, I am also applying for it as well! I am currently finishing up my essays and then sending it off!
@datedcylinder best of luck!!
Who is eligible to apply for this? Can high school juniors apply?
@JUP2020 it is only for high school seniors who are planning to attend a 4 year college in US or Canada in the 2019-2020 session. They have to intend to major in comp science related majors.
I’m applying as well and I’m kind of stuck on the question about pitching an app. How did you guys approach it? any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
@Coo1io well I had already written an essay for a college about using engineering for sustainability, and I modified it for an app.
I would just say to research current issues related to sustainability. Climate change, global warming, and other issues are impacting it. Obviously CSSI gave examples of food waste and recycling, and you could build on those. I just decided to think a little outside of the box and explored other ways sustainability is present in society. If you find one in particular (or use the Google one), just research more about it and the current issues it faces.
I’ll give an example for the food waste one. A study I recently read in my environment class mentioned how food waste emits greenhouse gases, according to the UN. You could write about an app that can determine the food which contributes the most to the release of gases to reduce the consumption of that food. I know its a pretty vague example, and probably not something you can use, but it is just something I came up with now.
Good luck!
I am a junior and hence graduate from high school in May 2020. I intend to major in CS and study for atleast 4 years in US. I am not clear if this is applicable to current high school seniors or juniors also.
I mean can I apply as a high school junior?
any international students who are applying
@JUP2020 you can apply next year, in 2020, for the summer of 2020.
Hey! I just finished my application to the Google cssi-hbcu program and I haven’t received a confirmation email. Did this happen to anybody else?
@JUP2020 I believe you can only apply as a high school senior
@JCarter20199 yeah this happened to me as well
If I get into Google CSSI do I need to send my official transcript? I’m just wondering cuz I need to gauge if I gotta keep up my game 3rd trimester or not. (Senioritis am I right?)
@JCarter20199 I applied a month ago and I don’t remember ever getting a confirmation email. However, I just logged back into the application portal, and it says “submitted”. So I think I should be fine? You can check your account and see if it says the same thing.
@dwightv I mean in order to get into CSSI you have to submit a transcript, but after you get in I’m not sure if they will require another one with your 3rd trimester. I haven’t heard of it happening before. But just in case, you probably shouldn’t slack off too much. If they ever ask for the official transcript then you probably want to show good grades. I totally understand your argument though, senioritis has made me unmotivated to do anything!
I emailed them because I was confused about the same thing, and they told me that if it puts “submitted” in your application. They have received your application and that they usually don’t send a confirmation.
Does anyone know if Google CSSI requires my official transcript if I get in? I’m just wondering cuz I need to gauge if I gotta keep up my game 3rd trimester or not.
I haven’t even started my application, LOL senioritis hit me hard…does anyone know CSSI’s acceptance rate?
