So the Google CSSI website notes that part of the goal is to inspire an interest, introduce students to the field, etc, implying that it’s for those who have little to no experience in the field.
It looks interesting to me in overview, but I already have some knowledge in C, Python, D and a number of less common languages, with some serious-ish projects under my belt. If I go, will I still have stuff to learn? Or if not, will the networking and etc still be worthwhile?
Hello! (Sorry for unearthing this thread out of the dead lol)
Ultimately it is up to you (it can’t hurt to apply if you really want to do it), but it really is meant to be an introductory camp. In the average day you will be under instruction from around 9-4 or 5 ish, including breaks. So to be honest, I think you might find it a bit boring/dull, especially if you have serious projects under your belt. Not to say you won’t learn anything if you apply and attend or that you wouldn’t benefit from attending, but it is geared towards individuals who do not have as much (or even any) prior programming experience. If you qualify, however, I encourage you to apply to Generation Google or look into maybe interning with a local start up?
You can also look into Microsoft’s high school program, if you live in the Puget Sound area. I think NASA might also have a program for high school students, so you can look into that. Anyways, best of luck!
