Son received a phone call this evening! He is going to the Boston location! Good luck to all of you!

OK ppl, got the call, see u in Mountain View

@luisfl97 @wiscbadger24ā€Œ I interviewed on one of the last days and I really didnā€™t know what to expect considering there were so many applications. Iā€™m so grateful to have been accepted and I wish everyone who has yet to hear the best of luck!

Does anyone know how many students applied?

Have all the calls gone out already?

@mother42 If I understood correctly from the phone call, I believe there were thousands of applicants.

CSSI MOUNTAINVIEW July 6-26!!! SOoOo Excited! @meichengā€Œ and @aldeanoā€Œ Ill see you there!

@FrancescaB Do you happen to know the exact number and the number selected? Laura, excited to meet you  My friend and I started a CSSI group on Facebook so we can find out whoā€™s going to which session. From there, we can make groups for each session and connect before going :)

https://www.facebook.com/groups/546451462134045/

To answer my question on the previous page, calls ARE still going out, and I just got one!

to edit what meicheng did, the page is facebook(dot)com/groups/546451462134045

Congratulations to everyone that got in! Iā€™m excited to announce that I will also be joining some of yaā€™ll at the Mountain View session. On another issue, did anyone else get asked about neural networks and Boltzmann machines during their interview? Just curious if they had generic questions or they were personalized for each individual interview.

Generic at first, sometimes not, but they branch off depending on answers.

Missed the call from 212 565 xxxx yesterday. So sad, donā€™t know if call me again. :frowning:

I got a rejection email today. Iā€™m proud of those who got accepted though! Iā€™m sure youā€™ll have an awesome time and learn a lot! Iā€™ll live vicariously through you all during your camps haha :)

@samrodā€Œ WOW that sounds extremely advancedā€¦ i know neural networks is AI stuff, but I just got asked some of the basic OOP terminology and a sorting-related questionā€¦

Hi guys, I am also signing up for the CSSI next year and I am so excited right now!

Are there any advices?
Also, what is an ideal SAT score for the program and does it matter? What were the interview questions about?

Thank you guys a lot in advance!

@VTCSSI I wonā€™t tell you the specifics because that would be cheating, and they change the Qā€™s each year so it would be useless, but know your algorithms. Data structures are also really important and they are important in problem solving. Read up on how the Internet works, like actually know the specifics. Interviewers are impressed when you know terminology rather than just saying ā€œthat thing.ā€ Interview questions were pretty generic for people who have programmed before. Donā€™t try to learn a bunch of languages, learn one really well and get used to its syntax.

There is no ā€œidealā€ score, I mean they care about it but itā€™s not like itā€™s college. Aiming above a 2000 would be a good starting point, the higher the better. But donā€™t get too carried away, because if you canā€™t solve problems during the interview, your SAT score is not going to help at all.

@VTCSSIā€Œ donā€™t take what @samrodā€Œ said at heart since he seems to be at the upper category of even CSSI applicants, as in the data structures & algorithms rest, rest is good advice. The APCS curriculum and OOP terminology should do ya. Along with perhaps, sorting and what not. You know, nothing higher than a second semester community college CS class.

Also, DO NOT FREAKING STRESS ABOUT SAT SCORES! God, this is not a college application. I got a 1820 and im going. they just want to see that you have a relatively moderate to high of cognitive and problem solving skills, and that you are college bound. Thatā€™s it. Good luck.

Thank you guys! You guys are the best!

@samrod Thank you! I am currently practicing C++ and I will definitely look into data structures since I am also very interested in networking, I will look further into that as well.

@calipretty3ā€Œ I will be taking my AP Computer Science next year and I will make sure that I get the most out of it! I appreciate your advices a lot!

Also, do you guys have any ideas about the applicant pool?

@calipretty3ā€Œ Also, since I donā€™t let my phone make any sound or vibration during my schooldays (about 8:30AM to 3PM), is there a possibility that I will miss their phone call? Will they call back later?

@VTCSSI In terms of total applicants I heard that thousands of students applied. A little less than half get chosen for interviews and even less get actually invited. So I mean do the math there. In terms of talent, people from all across the spectrum applied. Some had a wealth of experience while others had never been exposed to computer science.
