Got a 0 (yes, ZERO) on first calculus test.

I actually tried, which is the sad part.

I don't care about calculus at all.

My professor makes it so much harder than it really is. I barely get anything and to make matters worse, I have so much work for my major already I just don't even bother trying to figure things out.

I got a 0 on the first test. ZERO. AND I STILL DONT CARE. I checked my grade online and didn't even blink. I know that we can drop a test grade but Im not even motivated to buckle down and work harder for the next tests. What's wrong with me?

post-senioritis-trauma?

You can always drop the class. Now is probably the best time.

It seems like you're just not focused.

Can't drop it. I have to take it for my major this semester which is why I should care but....I can't make myself do it.

And I am focused, Im doing awesome in all my other classes.

Get a tutor fast. You not caring isn't an excuse for your GPA, or your parents, who will end up needing to pay for you to retake the class.

Why aren't you motivated? You need to find this out first. Should you not be in your current major? Maybe you should take a lower level class then take calc again over summer? (drop the calc now, take a lower class next semester, then calc during the summer)

The problem isnt that you got a 0 on your first test (unlike what most people here will tell you). you can make up for that later. You need to figure out why you don't care and adjust accordingly.

Get a tutor now.

"post-senioritis-trauma?"

I think I gots'd that...

Is there more than one teacher at your school teaching calculus? Can you go sit in on another class to see if it is being taught better, and then switch to that class? My daughter did that.

Sounds to me that you maybe suffering from depression. It is often terribly hard to get motivated when you are depressed. Talk to your doctor just in case...

If you can afford to get 0s on tests, you can afford to drop the course. Seriously. If your major requires you to take the class, then it requires you to pass the class. Refusing to quit because you "need" the course is pointless unless you are going to get the grade you need.

Either start caring and figure out how you're going to do much, much better beginning right now, or (no matter whether you can't make yourself care or just choose not to) withdraw.

That kind of sounds like how my Calculus II test will go tomorrow.

I second the "get a tutor" idea. Or find some person you'd like to get to know in your class (or who's done well in calc before) and ask them. What I have to do in my calc class (because our teacher isn't too great either) is to have fun in there to stay motivated. Then, I go through the book and do the same practice problems over and over until I totally get it. Maybe you could ask for some practice problems. I hope post-senioritis-trama won't happen to me, because senioritis alone is killing me right now.
