Got a 1740 on SAT for first time

I just got my SAT scores from the June 7th exam:

530 in CR
530 in M
680 in W
*11/12 on my essay

I'm not really happy with my scores because I've been thinking about applying to Dartmouth but it is a huge improvement from my PSAT scores which were:

480 in CR
460 in M
470 in W

Is a 1740 good for a first try? I was enrolled in a Kaplan course for about two months before I took it

Those scores are not close to what you’ll need for Dartmouth but you’re making excellent progress and it seems you’ve got the essay nailed. Check out the stickied threads on the SAT Prep sub-forum for effective self-study methods. If you devote the time and study properly, you may be able to get your scores where you need to for Dartmouth.

Ok, I think I’ll use the summer to prep for the October SAT

Good luck

Thanks
