Got a 34 ACT score, should I retake?

I’ve read more than a couple times that colleges view 34+ scores the same, which initially made me decide not to retake. Also, would like a confirmation on this, if possible (or does it depend on how competitive a college/university is?). However, I just signed up for the July 14th date because that allows me to take part of a study, making the ACT test free. If I do decide to take it again, it’ll be my third time. The first time I got a 31 (w: 8, e: 32, m: 28, r: 31, s: 31). The last time I received a w: 9, e: 35, m: 31, r: 35, s: 36. So, I’d mostly just have to focus on math. But, I’m not even sure if I’ll score as high as I did for the other subjects again. And, I will be a senior next year, so this summer I’m moreover focusing on applications/scholarships. So, do you think it’s worth it to retake it or just focus on applications?

do not take it again. No reason. You have a great C and solid writing score.

No. That’s a great score. Focus on the rest of your application.

Your 34 ACT is fine for UMN CBS, and the math is above the median. Check out your stats vs. other enrollees for fall 2017 on the following webpage:

In the past, UMN hasn’t superscored the ACT; if this is still the case, then there is no need tor retake unless your GPA is questionable, at least in order to get into CBS.

You’re in great shape. You could apply anywhere with that score.

You’re done

Thank you all for the replies! Sorry if this seemed like a common sense kind of question.

It isn’t a completely “common sense” kind of question. If you have weakness in other parts of your application (like GPA), you might benefit from a higher score.

You run the very real risk of getting a lower score again. I would not retake, in your shoes.

I will disagree with most and say retake if your major is going to be anything math intensive like engineering. Especially for schools like Wisconsin and Michigan. But I think a 34 is really the sweets spot for most schools especially out of state ones. Otherwise concentrate on writing a great, unique essay.

OP wants to study biology at the University of Minnesota. No need to retake.
