I took AP Language last year, in my junior year, and got a 5 on the exam, which I didn’t find out until after choosing my senior courses. My counselor had automatically put me in AP Lit for my senior year. I’m also taking AP Bio and AP Calc AB. Anyway, I was looking up the ap credits offered at the four-year university I want to go to, and found that getting a 5 on both or either exam (AP lit or lang) would give me ENGL 101 and 102 (the only other way to get both is getting a 3 on both exams, but that doesn’t apply to me) I still have time to drop my AP Lit class and just take honors English 4 instead, but I want to be sure that I won’t be losing any benefits from doing so. At the same time, I don’t want to have even more work on top of what I already have. So should I drop AP Lit because it won’t get me anymore credit than I’m already getting, or are there other benefit that will make it worth taking?
Still take it, in my opinion. They’re different classes that teach you how to write in different ways.
In that case, should I skip taking the exam?
Sure, if you won’t get credit for it. What do your other college options say about credit, though? What happens if you have to go somewhere else where it turns out you can get credit?
well the thing is I am 100% positive that I will go to a university in my city (I plan on commuting), but well there aren’t many options. We literally have a main four year University, a 2 year technical school, and a private 4 year, all girl’s college. I am 99% sure that I will go to the university.
On another note, I was wondering what the impact of keeping it would have on my gpa/class rank? It’s not that I have a bad class rank or gpa, actually I’m doing pretty well in that regard, but i AM aiming for a scholarship…
I agree with @bodangles Take the class and skip the exam. Now if you had fun elective options like creative writing, detectives in fiction, 20th C. drama, etc., my advice would be different. But if the options are AP Lit vs. H English IV, take the AP class.
That’s a good point; I imagine that while eng 4 would be much easier, it’ll also be incredibly boring. but is that really a good enough reason to do all the extra work? I love reading and all, but I am already drowning in AP bio and calc. I don’t want to find myself at the end of the semester stressing out over like 3 different projects and tests and regretting the choice of keeping ap lit.
