Recieved ALL A’s Except for AP Chemistry Sophomore Year (Got a B+)
I doubled on Science and completely Blew it…

Want to Major in Bioengineering? but blew it with AP Chemistry. I blew it so bad.

I got a B in the most important Science Class I needed for this major

can you chance me for UCB? bioengineering?

I still think you have a reasonable chance at UCB. I highly doubt you’ll get rejected just for having one B.

You can easily get into UCB

but my B is in AP chemistry and my major is bio engineering (requires strong chemistry background) and I heard its one of the most competitive majors at UCB… I was wondering if they will take into account my other classes and ECs or they will only look at my trashy science GPA

It’s a B. One B. In one of the hardest high school classes. ONE B. Literally one. And a B+ at that. It is no big deal. What’s your UC GPA?

Also will they take into consideration that I doubled on Science from 10-12 grade? or does the A mean more??

I think that although it is one B, it will not at all ruin your chances. Just because you got a B in the class does not mean that it is a large reflection of your abilities. For example, one B among all A’s signifies more of a fault in the teacher than a fault in you (in my opinion, of course). Given your score and GPA, I think you have a pretty good shot (as long as instate- still reasonable chance for out of state as well). Just make sure that your essays are strong, and if chosen to send a letter of recommendation, they are strong as well.

They’ll look at your GPA and test scores first, and they’ll be impressed. The will look at your ECs and your course rigor as well.

do UC Schools look at class rank or percentile? and do they look at academic or total GPA?

Was your grade a B after the addition of extra weight for the AP?

What is your UC GPA?

You need to take a breath and relax. I’m from North Carolina where our public universities are almost as competitive as the UCs. Being an in-state resident is going to help you immensely. In addition, you need to remember that public state universities were built for the people who live in that state to further enrich their lives and create a more educated state. Don’t freak out over one B. It literally is not going to make or break you, ESPECIALLY because of the amazing extracurriculars you seem to have. Remember, colleges don’t want perfect–they want interesting.

Do not be ridiculous! My daughter with 2 B’s was accepted to UCLA with Regents scholarship!

UC GPA is 4.22 with their cap at 8 weighted classes…

Does anyone know which UCB engineering major is the least impacted?

Actually my UC GPA is a 4.44 with out freshman year and current senior year grades

If I didnt get that B it would be a 4.5… in addition, according to the UCB stats for the college of engineering, the avg GPA is 4.5 :frowning: but it have a 4.44… http://engineering.berkeley.edu/about/facts-and-figures <-does anyone know if this data is with the UC GPA cap? cuz if it is, that means the average accepted UCB engineering student never received a B in highschool

@spvengat It depends. What did you get on the national exam. I B+ in AP Chem with a 5 on the exam looks a lot different than a B+ with a 3. Either way, it shouldn’t affect your chances too much. Chill

i got a 5

This thread spewed out the word “elitist” onto me the second I read it. People with C’s got into UC Berkeley. And whats wrong with a B? It means above average. Colleges don’t just want all A’s; they understand that we are all human, not perfect grade generating robots.
