got a B on an english class required by IGETC

does that affect my chance being accepted by ucb, ucla those top uc's?
I am math major though.
But many are saying the two english courses fulfilling IGETC weight a lot...

what is your current GPA?

before fall09 it was 3.9+

because of this english class…
i currently have 3.8+

You have nothing to worry about.

Agreed, your B won’t make a difference, your GPA is still really competitive. Keep focusing on your major prerequisites, keep your GPA up and you should be good for both

There is a chance you will not get in.

^there’s always a chance someone might not get in.

There is a chance he/she will get in; an even higher chance! Beat that!!!

Calbearguy and Uchopeful2010 you are completely right, so sorry I worded that wrong. What I meant was that your B in the English class wouldn’t mean an instant rejection from UCB and UCLA , but yes nothing is a guaranteed.

Instant rejection for a B with a 3.8ish GPA? You guys are paranoid (which is good in some cases). There are many-too many- factors that are out of our control. People get into Berkeley with 2.7-4.0 gpas. Please don’t jump off your roof if you do not get in.

Like my counselor once said, if you don’t apply to these 15 majors (out of ucla’s 100+ majors) it is really easy to get in. Berkeley is kind of the same way. Just try to get a 3.7 or higher. Being well rounded helps.

After winter, I’ll have a 3.9gpa. I don’t have a 4.0, but I have a lot of work, club, leadership, and personal attributes that make up for my lack of a cookie-cutter GPA. In the end, I don’t care if I don’t get into Berkeley or UCLA; I’ll be happy at UCSC, UCSB, or UCSD.

i had a friend last yr get into both UCB and UCLA for english with only a 3.5. she did have TAP with UCLA though.

i know someone who got into UCB as english major with a 3.5 as well, he didnt get into UCLA, but its prolly cuz he applied as a film major for UCLA.

I think you might not get into any UCs, I hope you applied to the Cal state system, they might take you now.

Unless you applied to Haas or UCLA Communications then you still have a good shot.

^ he’s a math major

be calm young man! you have a great gpa!

are you serious? i have a couple C’s and a couple B’s in IGETC. its not that big a deal, just have a competitive GPA and fight for a spot at whatever school you want to go to. a B in college isnt really bad

thank you guys=),i feel much better
