(Rising senior here, class of '12) ... I got a call last week from FSU admissions office... I was at a leadership camp and couldn't answer so I declined the call, sending it straight to voicemail. They called right back again and left a message, explaining that they noticed I had expressed interest in the university (I listed FSU as one of the colleges to send my April ACT scores to, which came out to be a 35) and would like to speak with me. Today we finally got to talk and basically I was just asked about how interested I am in the college, why, what I want to study, what I find important in choosing a college, what other colleges I'm considering, and offered to answer any questions I have.

I'm not sure if this is normal or what, but I'm sure it's a good thing that they're so interested in me... I've never heard of a college being so forward in wanting to reach out to ME instead of the other way around. Does anybody know if this means I'm on their radar or what else it could mean? I'm not sure what to think.

During my senior year of high school, from the start of the year in mid-August until about mid-March I got about 6 phone calls from FSU people. It seemed like about every time I did a different step in suggesting I was looking to attend FSU (send test scores, apply, get accepted, pay housing deposit, pay orientation fee, pay tuition deposit) that I got a phone call from someone at FSU. A bunch from the military as well, but that’s different.

It’s not a bad thing. FSU is just as interested in gaining info about their incoming class as their incoming class is in gaining info about FSU.

It certainly means they’re interested in you attending FSU. They want as many great students as possible, and you certainly seem to fit that profile.

Calls are a good thing. UF does not call. They have a different attitude. They have a “what can you do for us” or “what have you got to offer us” attitude. FSU calls. They have a “what can we do for you” attitude. They have a “you bring quite a lot to the table” attitude. They make it more personal. And with honors, they make your education more personal. They are interested in you.

I got a call too. Actually, they keep calling until I answered. It was a team of students calling for admissions to answer any questions that I might have about the school. It was quite nice.

They called me last year sometime during the summer (closer to August, IIRC). I talked to an admissions officer who basically just wanted to gauge my level of interest and make sure I knew what I needed to do to apply. Oh and I got to speak with a current student who asked and answered a lot of questions.
