I recently got a call from Berkeley about my financial aid process… The lady just asked me if I had filed my FAFSA and sent in my CalGrant GPA verification form and yaddayadda… Something about the Berkeley “cares” program? o_O Last question before we hung up was which universities were my top three choices (Berkeley, UCLA, and Stanford) and then she proceeded on to tell me that I should DEFINITELY go to Berkeley.
Does this mean ANYTHING or is it just something that every student gets?
I’m confused but flattered… and then slightly worried that I may just be getting my hopes up.

hmm... I think it's a good sign that they're looking at your financial aid, that means they're seriously considering you as an applicant, I believe. I don't think they bother doing fin aid stuff for people who they know they won't be accepting... not to get your hopes up or anything. Good luck though!

Oh and bettina: I was trying to slip in a witty joke, maybe, about how a phone call means Berkeley must love me but the lady kept playing this whole thing down, as if it was just something they did to everyone. However, she DIDN't mention that every student gets contacted (even though she sure as heck made it sound like it). Confused me even more.

The CalGrant GPA verification form is for California residents. Basically, you send in a form that verifies your GPA from.. I think 10th and 11th grade? It's to see if you qualify for any state grants. I don't really know much beyond that because my college counselor pretty much took care of it for me-- I just had to mail it in.
