Got a D. Am I screwed?

I received a D in AP English Literature and Composition. My weighted GPA is just over 3.0. I applied as a Computer Science major to:
-SJSU
-SDSU
-Cal Poly Pomona
-Cal Poly SLO
-UCSC
-UCI
-UCD
-UCSD
-UCB

My CSU SAT: M-710 CR-610 W-690
My UC SAT: M-710 CR-580 W-630

Should I even bother sending my SAT scores to UC’s? Is my college education screwed?

Bumpitty bump…

With a weighted gpa of just over a 3.0 and applying to a competitive major like computer science you list is not a very good one. Although the D doesn’t help there were “problems” with your college list to begin with. I would not expect any acceptances to the UC’s. You need at least a 3.5 to even apply to the UC’s. Most of the UC’s you have listed require a gpa closer to 3.9 or higher even to be considered competitive. The Cal Poly’s are in the same boat especially SLO. SDSU’s average acceptance GPA is 3.8 so that would be a long shot for you. The only school you have chance at is San Jose however it has a terrible graduation rate.

Since there is still time to apply I would look at the schools listed under the Western Undergraduate Exchange. They give tuition discounts to Cal residents (which it looks like you are) and may be better options for you. One school that comes to mind is Northern Arizona University. I would also check to see what Cal-State schools are still accepting applications and I would apply to more of those schools. I don’t know if they are but Sonoma State and Chico State might be some options for you.

The D in an AP class is not a good thing and does hurt you with UC’s. Depending on the number of years of English you have had it could also hurt you with the Cal-State schools.

For the sake of the morale of others that happen upon this thread that may be in the same boat I was in, I will be attending UCI for my undergrad education in Computer Science.
