<p>Okay, so pretty much i got a D in my Algebra 2/Trig Honors class my junior year. Im retaking the class right now in summer school and im getting an A. Are my chances ruined for UCs? or will they look at the better grade?
Also, i’ve taken 5 AP classes so far and a bunch of honors courses. my gpa is about 3.6 and i got a 1960 on the SAT and a 28 on the ACT.</p>
<p>No, your chances are not completely ruined, especially since you are retaking the class.</p>
<p>Since passing Alg II is required for admission, you must repeat it with a C or better. Yes, you can retake. Yes, you can be accepted to a UC campus with that repeat course grade. Most likely, the admission would be a lower tier campus, however.</p>
<p>that’s a bummer. will they look at both my grades or just the better one? and what’s lower tier? UCSB? UCI? Merced? Davis? what do you think?</p>

<p>Of course you can still get into a UC, but it probably won’t be your first choice to be honest. I got a D in English my junior year and take it over summer and got an A+ and was rejected to nearly all the UCs I actually wanted to go to. Lower tier is UCM, UCR, UCSC. I don’t want to put you down, rather, I want you to prepare you for the worst. Expectthe worst, hope for the best.</p>

Passing any next level math class will cover your bad grade.
For example: You got D in Algebra II, and next year you are taking pre-calculus and get C.
Your new C in pre-calculus cover D in Algebra II.
In order to get C in pre-calculus you need to know Algebra II.</p>
<p>Apply to the colleges you wish to go to. Contact the school you are interested in if you want to know for sure. You have to have 3 years of math. UCs are interested in lots of types of students…</p>

because i want to go to graduate school (medical), how much of a difference will it make if i go to a lower tier (but still UC) school? assuming i perform well</p>

<p>You should figure it out. I think it’s all about the UC GPA. If it is above 3.0 you WILL get into Merced. Here are the profiles for freshman in 2010. </p>

<p>For most UC’s, admission is by school ( i.e. Arts and Sciences vs Engineering) , not major (English vs History).</p>

<p>I don’t know what “hard” means. AP, and approved honors in California will help. Try the statinder.</p>

<p>The UC will not count the D as long as the course you repeated was the exam same course. Check the charts Shrinkrap posted. UCSC, UCM, and UCR would be safeties. UCSB , Irvine, and Davis would be reaches but still possible. The rest would probably be a long shot.</p>
