Ok so..I was taking statistics as my math requirement to get into a UC and after doing my TAG application, I got the same message for some schools (basically, keep your gpa where it's at and pass your classes and you'll be admitted..) and then I got the confirmations from Merced and Riverside (I honestly can't even think straight right now so I may have them confused), so basically things were looking good. Then, I took my stats final and totally bombed it, resulting in a D, like 5 points from a C. I still have another semester, spring semester, before going to a UC...but am I screwed? Obviously I'm taking the class again, but does this even count, or will I not even be accepted anymore because I got a D this last semester? I have no idea what to do! This is killing me....I'm an English major, I can't accept that this statistics class is affecting my education and life like this. I want to cry but I'm in shock :(

In making admissions decisions for Fall 2011 enrollment I believe the UCs only look at your grades through Fall 2010 since they have to make admission decisions before Spring 2011 grades would be available. Getting a D in your math requirement for the Fall 2010 quarter or semester would normally result in your TAG being invalidated and rejection by the UC. However, we are talking about Merced and Riverside here so different (much lower) standards compared to the other UCs could well apply in your case and you still probably have a decent chance of acceptance.

I’m pretty sure your TAG will be voided and as the top poster said they will only look at your fall grades resulting you not getting into your desired UC. Then you will be forced to stay at a cc for another year while living with your parents still telling you why couldnt you get in. Then until they finally see you have retaken the class then you maybe finally be admitted if you pass stats in the spring.

Call and talk to the schools you are applying to.

I knew a girl here in San Diego who got into UC Santa Cruz. During her last semester at CC, she got a D in her last science class. She never heard anything from UCSC so just assumed everything was all good. She moved up there, and when she was enrolling and getting her classes, the counselor couldn’t sign her up for classes, and then she noticed she got a D in her last IGETC class and told her should could not enroll that semester. She went to a Santa Cruz CC for that semester instead and now I think she is fine and in UCSC.

My point being, just call and talk to them, tell them you struggled and you will be retaking the class in Spring and then just follow whatever their advice is.
