Got a D on my report card for 1st semester as a Senior

So I got a 69.93% in AP Physics B and my teacher doesn't round up. I know this must look terrible on a transcript but it looks like there's nothing I can do about it. It was a hard class for me and I honestly did my best and did not slack off but unfortunately this was the end result.I have already been accepted to UCR and Cal State Fullerton, but I am concerned for the private universities I applied to(Chapman, LMU, Pepperdine, Redlands, USD, and La Verne). As fas as im concerned it is not an A-G course. I have already done Bio, Honors chem, and honors physics already. Would this only affect my GPA(weighted or unweighted) ? Do I have to notify the schools i have been accepted to?

Thank you for any info.

Check the UCR and CSUF admission pages for any conditions of admission. Many UCs’ conditions of admission specify no D or F grades in reported in-progress senior year courses, or the admission may be rescinded. Find out if that applies, and whether you can appeal.

Start researching community colleges in case the D grade causes you to get all of your admissions rescinded.

I’d call UCR admissions and ask, also ask if a higher 2nd semester will make a difference. all I could find was the conditions that “(and maintain academic excellence as a senior).” but your admission agreement may have more details. Really he won’t do give you any options and you are a .07 away from a C? Have you done everything you can do? No one is going to like to see that D.

I was aware that you got an extra point for the course being AP so it would turn out to be a C…however this might not be the case for everyone and your college will probably see that D. Definitely contact admissions and ask them about it.

The UC/CSU weighting system only gives +1 points for honors or AP courses in which C or higher grades were earned, if that matters (which it probably does not).

LMU, Pepperdine & USD (all of which my S has applied to and we’ve visited a couple of times each–accepted at LMU) are not going to like the “D”. We visited 19 private colleges throughout the country, and MANY of them said, we don’t really value AP’s nearly as much as we used to (some even limit acceptance of them, such as Pomona and Pepperdine) as we have students who come in with them and the professors complain they are not ready for the higher level work and it messes the professors up. Many of these 19 schools said, don’t take the AP’s if you’re not going to get an A or B. An AP class in and of itself does not give you the option of lower grades (to almost quote them). I have a feeling UCR won’t be an issue and probably not CSUF.

Most UCs’ conditions of admission say that D or F grades in senior year may cause the admission offer to be rescinded. UCR’s conditions do not seem to be publicly available, but the OP can try checking the conditions on his/her account at the UCR admissions portal to see what they are.

The UC schools require you to notify them of any schedule changes or grades below a C. Whether this will affect your admission I don’t know, but you’re certainly better off finding out now what will happen than in August. The UCs say it can, but can does not mean will.

Yes, notify them. But a D will hurt you. Anything below a B will hurt you. I got two Cs during fall of my junior year and fall senior year. When they replied to my email concerning my those Cs they saidmy grades would have to drop “significantly” for me be denied. I assume significant to my own records. Idk if I got admitted, yet.
