So i’m from california and my college choices are basically all UC’s and cal states. my grades are average i’m not expecting to get into UCLA or anything, but my dream school is UC santa cruz. Basically my sophomore year i got a d in my second semester of chem which is an a-g requirement. I cannot retake over summer so basically my only option is to do it my second semester of senior year. Is this going to completely ruin my chances of all UC’s and cal states? What should I do for the best chances?
If you cannot retake the Chem class prior to application season, you will not receive a-g credit for the course and the D will be calculated into your UC GPA. UCSC is still possible but make sure you have another lab science on your transcript to replace the Chem course so you meet at least the minimum a-g requirements.
Have you considered taking Chemistry at your local community college even though you will not get the grade replaced? You can also take the Chem SAT subject test to show proficiency.
Can you take a different class over the summer and retake chem in the fall?
You can certainly meet the G requirement without Chem but, I think you will find it tough to earn a sufficient GPA to be competitive for UCSC with a D on your transcript. The only way to get the D off your transcript is to re-take the class.
