Got a letter in the mail from UCSB...

this is just crazy, I am so happy for all of you....we still have not received any invitation and my daughter's stats seemed up there maybe even higher than some that were invited. I keep praying she gets this letter

languages don't worry. Your daughter has strong stats and she will get into SB even if she isn't chosen for this event.

Definitely, languages. Your D will definitely get into UCSB with those stats. This letter is just for people that they want to hook, perhaps first-generation or super stats.

do you think she stands a chance of any scholarship?

yellowdaisy07 - I just believe it's a formality so as to not ruin the surprise/significance of the evening. I checked back last year and apparently they say that you got in there, so it should be safe to assume that you're in.

languages, if your D applied to scholarships, and they find her fitting for them, why not? If you're talking about Regents, there are tons of other over qualified people competing for those too, so probably not. You will need to be the cream of the crop for the Regent's scholarship at any UC.

wow im just glad, how strange

Registered on their link and...
"We are pleased that you will be attending the University of California, Santa Barbara reception for high-achieving applicants. Our goal in bringing this program to your area is to provide you and your family with the opportunity to meet UCSB faculty, staff and students who will introduce you to campus departments and student services. Your invitation to this event does not reflect your admission status to UCSB. Offers of admission will be available online and mailed during the month of March."

That's what they say...but from last year, as people on CC have recounted, they tell us we have been admitted once we are there. Maybe it is different this year? Did last year's letter say that the "invitation to this event does not reflect your admission status to UCSB."?

what is the link to reserve this event anyone?

The link to reserve the event is on your invitation.

I got one last year. You're definitely in

is this event worth going to? what do you do there?

Does anyone know if this meeting is mandatory? I made plans before receiving this letter and I don't believe I can get out of it.

calivi3tgurl - It's not mandatory, as mentioned elsewhere in this thead.

I am not sure if your talking about this thread, but I reread it and still don't see any other post that says this meeting is not mandatory. I did call the office of admissions and they said that it is not mandatory, but that you shouldn't miss it.

so can anyone tell us what happens during these receptions?

im going to the san jose one, maybe ill see some of you guys there! i just put my picture link is in my profile so if you guys see or recognize me, make sure to introduce yourselves if we might be classmates next year!!

I'm guessing it's gonna be a basic recruit us to choose SB over other schools and meet some professors/students thing. I might go to the SJ one too, but I doubt i'll end up going to SB

We attended the SF one 2 years ago. They did indeed announce that everyone in the audience had been accepted. There were presentations and panel discussions describing UCSB. My daughter was given a badge with her regents ribbon attached and was approached by many professors and admissions people encouraging her to attend. She decided on Rice in the end.

IDK if I want to go anymore...lol too many people at my school got it. I don't feel special anymore.
