GOT ACCEPTED AS TRANSFER! i HAVE question..

i got accepted as a transfer for fall 2011
i am planning to do chemical eingeering..
i have almost 80 credits because my major was pharmacy
so they put me in the letters and sciences program before i get to an LEP one because they said i dont have enough requirements or competitive to be accepted in chemical eingeering.
i agree, i probally only did about an year and halfs worth of chemical eingeering basic classes

so how does the LEP program work. i dont get it at all and i dont get how u need to be accepted in them.
because at my current college, if ur major is lets say chemical eingeering, u just need tot ake all the classes required for that, whenever u feel like it and for how long you want.
like everyones on their own.

LEP= limited enrollment program, meaning that they limit the number of majors in that program. Engineering (in general) is one of the most competitive majors at UMD. They want students who will succeed in their program…the key is to take the coursework that is recommended, and to get as high of a GPA at UMD as you can. Once you prove that you are “chem e” material (for example, successfully make it through the required math and early Chemistry classes), you can apply for the major. The higher your GPA (especially after transferring to UMD) the better your chances for being admitted to the program. One effect of the LEP is that many employers, grad schools, etc. know that it is much harder to get into those majors at UMD…
