So if I didn’t get an early write, does that mean I won’t get STRIDE?

^ no, not at all

Not absolutely. However. the STRIDES and Zollman’s are usually given to RD applicants and to those that Smith considers as the most competitive applicants in the class.

I just got my letter in this afternoon, I was so shocked when I opened it. I didn’t even know Smith did early writes, I thought it was just going to be another paper about financial aid or something. Needless to say, just got back from a celebratory dinner at BJ’s ;D

This takes a huge load off my shoulders. I still have 11 schools to hear back from (ridic, I know), but Smith was one of my higher choices. I’m so excited. Congrats to everyone in this position, and good luck to those who are still waiting!

Side note, stats for me in case people stalk this later and want to know:

SAT: 2240
SAT IIs: Literature, 790 & U.S. History, 760
GPA: 104.4/100.0
Rank: 2/214
Awards: AP Scholar with Distinction, National Merit Commended Scholar, Nation Hispanic Scholar
APs: World History, English Language, Human Geography (5s): Calculus AB, Psychology, U.S. History (4s), Calculus BC (3) [didn’t send in that score lol]
Also, I’m taking AP Environmental Science, AP Government, AP Macro Economics, and AP English Lit this year.

My main extracurricular is Interact Club (member for three years, president two of those), which the admissions officer actually made a handwritten note about on the letter. Others are NHS (president), Quiz Bowl (captain), Academic UIL (captain), and four years of athletic training (sports medicine, basically).

Also, I applied as a Political Science major.

whooooooo

I’ll put my stats on that one thread, if anyone wants to know. I know I’m guilty of hunting down people’s stats.

OMG I just got my letter I’m sooooooo happy right now!!!

@Sarah1994 so did I! I had given up hope!

Congrats to all of you. I hope I shall see ya’ll at Smith next year.

Did you guys get handwritten messages on your letters?

Yeah, mine was a reference to my personal statement: “I’m sure your writing deserved to come to life in a play.” That pretty much sealed the deal of me going to Smith - if financial aid permits it, but I bet it will.

How about ya’ll?

Yeah, mine was a reference to my personal statement too! “No five paragraph essays at Smith! We’re a place where it’s ok to be argumentative, competitive and stubborn… and a feminist!”

Just got a letter!!! I’m so excited. My mail is slow – I’m from a small town! Since my essay was about Edgar Allan Poe, the personal note said, “You have great POE-tential! Hope to see you at Smith!” Smith is one of my top choices, so I’m really REALLY happy. Congrats to all of you!

CONGRATS celine3455, ohreally877 and sarah1994!!

Have any of you decided that you’re going to Smith?

Also, the handwritten message referred to my personal statement too! The message my sister got referred to her extracurriculars/future. I loved that message! It made it really personal.

Congrats celine3455. And I love all these personal messages~

What about you, dzair, definitely going?

@ohreally877, I had given up hope too!
@dzair, thanks:)

Congrats to everyone! <3

Mine referenced my CA short answer, which about how being involved in Interact Club (and by proxy Rotary International) has influenced my life and interest in international relations. So the short note said “through Interact, * am making global change!” or something like that (it’s in the kitchen right now, haha).

Smith is definitely one of my top choices, but I’m going to wait to see where else I get in. Out of the other 12 I applied to, the only ones that would compete with Smith for me are Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Dartmouth, Amherst, and maaybe Barnard/NYU. Not sure about the last two.

So I’m back to the (now significantly less painful) waiting game.

Larentia, I’m not sure yet. Its definitely a great school but I’d have to wait and see until all my decisions arrive. But its definitely up there. :)

And theamazingemz, congrats! I’m going to wait until my decisions come out too. But it DOES feel good to already have been accepted to a great school like Smith.

Good luck with the rest of your decisions, everyone!

Right? It’s like, now we can breathe. If you don’t mind me asking, where else did you apply?

Full list for me (OH GOD the application fees…):
Drexel (fallback, accepted in Nov with giant merit scholarship lol)
Smith (accepted, obviously<3)
Columbia (ED, deferred)
Harvard
Princeton
Yale
Penn
Dartmouth
Barnard
Williams
George Washington
New York University
Amherst

…I may have been a little paranoid, what

Hi guys! I got an early write as well! I was so happy! Congratulations to all of you :)

I also got a letter! Mine said something like, “I’m so glad you’re considering English as a major because you’re such a talented writer,” which is really affirming.

@theamazingemz
I’m pretty much in the same boat, although I didn’t apply to that many schools.
University of Michigan (EA, admitted)
Princeton University (EA, deferred)
Columbia University
New York University
Wellesley College (EE, likely to be admitted)
Smith College (admitted)
Barnard College

If I cross Princeton and Columbia off the list because it’s hilariously improbable that I’ll get in, cross NYU off because of cost, I’m probably down to deciding between Barnard and Wellesley, although Smith is a great option if they send me a merit-based scholarship.
