Got accepted early as an RD Applicant!

hi guys! late joining the thread here, but I also got an early letter and a dress, oops, I mean T-shirt  it’s hilarious because my last name is Smith, so my parents were joking that it’s personalized… good luck to everyone with the “official” letters, and the others who are getting their acceptances soon!

Daughter received the STRIDE notification in the mail today as well. An
invite to Open Campus on April 19,20 was included. Brief description of
the STRIDE program was included. Daughter, wife and me couldn’t be
more pleased with Smith.

Hope I get one today! Smith and Brown are really tough for me to choose between.

Speaking personally, I tbink Smith is a significantly better school in virtually every area.

Personally for me, they objectively and subjectively cancel each other out. I know Smith isn’t the best school in the world, and neither is Brown, but I can get an amazing education and have a great experience at both. STRIDE would be great, but of course thousands of people every year graduate and do well without a specific STRIDE type program. Respectfully, for me, STRIDE isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker like I thought it would be.

omg i got a zollman!!! best day of my life. did not expect this at ALL

Congrats!!!

@ohreally877
I got a Zollman, too! I’m kinda stunned.

thanks mini!
and omg RIGHT itdoesdeath?! I didn’t think I was nearly qualified enough to get one. I kept thinking maybe it was a mistake…

Yeah, I’m incredibly surprised. Where else are you considering?

My list:
University of Michigan - EA, accepted w/free tuition (local scholarship gives any public school graduate who attended our district from k-12 free tuition at any public, in-state school)
Wellesley College - likely EE notification
NYU Global Liberal Studies RD
Princeton EA, deferred
Columbia RD
Barnard RD (would prefer to go to BC over Columbia, but financial aid is a huge concern).

For a while I was going between Barnard (assuming I get in) and Wellesley, but this puts Smith way back on top of the list.

I did Yale SCEA and was deferred (ivy deferral twins!), not expecting much there. I also got a Wellesley EE notification (I think we talked about this in the Barnard forum?), and some of my other RDs are Middlebury, Barnard, Vassar, Amherst, Brown, and Swarthmore.

Gotta love those Ivies. I’ve essentially stopped entertaining all hope of getting into Princeton, but my interest in going there was more based on Joyce Carol Oates and the fact that the campus is gorgeous than anything else. I’d probably be happier at a liberal arts school. What are you thinking about studying?

Hahahah yeah, I don’t think Yale is the best fit for me, personally. I’m thinking about going for a SWAG major or maybe an American Studies major with a concentration in gender… haven’t figured that out yet. I also want to take some advanced classes in French and then learn a new foreign language. I’m ambitious lol what about you?

I’d like to do a double major in English and History with a concentration in creative writing (maybe?). At some point, I’d also like to continue taking French and learn some more Arabic (I’m in my second semester of it at a local university, but I’ll probably have to start over since my teacher is a little…unconventional). I wish there was a major in ‘all of the things.’

Remember kids, when you lay your head down on a pillow that first week of
September you are going to be in ONE place. FWIW when our undergraduates
approach me for graduate school recommendations I limit them to 3 – saying
time to focus.

These are wonderful and generous merit awards provided by Smith College. They
really do care about putting together a fabulous new class. Looking forward
to the Open Campus event in April. Go Smith!!

I just thought I’d drop in and let y’all know that I just received a STRIDE letter in the mail! It’s still not the official admission package, but I was pretty surprised. I received a Likely to Dartmouth about a month ago, and I’m not sure where my mental rankings lie…it’ll take visiting most of where I’m accepted, probably haha.

Itdoesdeath- Congrats on the Zollman!! That’s so awesome. I applied to NYU’s Core Program too, I got the e-mail this morning that I’ve been accepted. If I end up there, I’m thinking Shanghai for my freshman year.

…needless to say, it’s been a pretty good day.

Didn’t get a STRIDE or Zollman today. I’m holding on 'til tomorrow though. Crossing my fingers!

Crossing my fingers for you, Larentia!

@Larentia, i think this time they sent all the letters out at once (for early writes they staggered them, sending them to farther-away applicants before close ones), so I wouldn’t give up hope since yours has to travel all the way to Texas!

@theamazingemz Congrats on NYU! Although now I’m probably going to be a mess whenever my phone tells me that I’ve got an email for the next week or so, haha. Also, yessss for getting the hyperbole & a half reference.

@Larentia Good luck!
