Got Accepted Early! Help me plan my next steps!

Hello Everyone,
I got accepted to Northeastern University EA with International Scholarship. I still want to apply to some universities but Regular Admissions. Help me select which ones I should try my luck with!
I already applied to UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, Boston University, and University of Southern California. I think I have a fair shot for all of them (except UCB, its gna be tough). I would like to apply to a few more top notch business schools.
I was thinking Cornell, Boston College, Upenn, and NYU. I know all are reaches; however, I think that I can make it into at least 1 since NEU gave me scholarship and must have seen potential in my application. Also, what do you think about Babson/Bentkey

Are babson and Bentley better than northeastern for business finance? Should I apply to them as well? Please tell me where does northeastern stand compared to all the colleges I mentioned. I only want to aim higher from here. Thanks guys

My stats are: A-/A/A/A GPA (Over 4 years), 2080 SAT (750M,640CR,690W), 6AP exams (took 2 got 4&5), very tough course load, AMAZING essays and ECs and REcs just trust me.

SAT 2s will be taken next month as well

Bump!

Babson is a great school for business and entrepreneurship; in 2014, it was #1 top college in the US as ranked by Money Magazine http://www.babson.edu/news-events/babson-news/Pages/140728-money-magazine-ranking-babson-best-college.aspx

Are you applying for aid or are you full-pay?

If any of those schools are “need aware” and you’re full-pay, that could be a bump.

@mom2collegekids I am full pay. Not applying for aid. Do you think I have a shot at BC/NYU/Penn/Cornell?

Well, first, you should agree that your test score is not very competitive for those top-notch colleges you’re applying to. Lucky you Northeastern doesn’t care about your SAT because you are an international student (they don’t even look at them if you submit).

With your test score, Cal, UPenn, Cornell, and NYU Stern are unlikely because they do care about number. UCSD, BC, BU, and USC are more reachable. If you truly have AMAZING essay, I think you have a shot. Just don’t be surprised if you get into NEU with scholarship but not another.

Choose Babson if you want entrepreneurship. It is a very solid business school (which I’m applying to), but besides entrepreneurship, it’s not on par with NEU and Bentley, especially in Finance.

Bentley and NEU are difficult to choose. Not one of them is sub par, but I’d give NEU a slight edge for its co-op program and its urban location (if you prefer that). Bentley has a better trading room, I guess. Some posters on CC claimed that Bentley’s trading room was the best in the Northeast. You should also consider fit because they’re very different schools in that one is small and suburban, the other is big and urban.

I don’t mean to dishearten you or something. This is just an opinion from a peer (international) senior who is also applying to US colleges. I wish you the best of luck, and lastly, congratulations on NEU.

"since NEU gave me scholarship and must have seen potential in my application " I think what NEU saw was “international” and “full pay”.

Unless you’re a transfer student, the RD admission cycle is closed for all UC schools.

@mooseanderson then why would they give me a scholarship? They are literally offering me money. If they wanted me to pay full, then they would have just accepted me. Anyways, I don’t mind paying full for any of the top schools. So if they admit me based on that then I won’t mind.

I suspect international status may help at schools that don’t have that many applicants outside the the US. That doesn’t mean places like HYP or peer institutions, where internationals are an ORM comparable to Asians, but at other schools applicant numbers may be lower. In that case, you’d be valued as you can bring diversity.

I know internationals tend to have a leg up at lower-ranked schools and at many LAC’s, as few will apply. I have no idea what % of Northeastern’s applicant pool comes from abroad.

OP, you’re correct that if NEU was going after full-pay international $, they wouldn’t have given you a scholarship. I’m sure there are students who’ve been offered $0, and were admitted for that very purpose, but it’s unlikely that was responsible for your admission.

Sometimes schools use “scholarship” to entice full pay students – like you. Let’s say a school’s total bill is $50,000 and they offer you a $4,000 scholarship (fees due = $46,000). But another comparable school’s total bill is $30,000. The 2nd school accepts you but offers you ZERO scholarship. Would you choose the first one over the second one?

Don’t let the emotion of being awarded the NEU scholarship blind you from other possible good deals. I don’t know how much NEU offered you but look at the bottom line. Don’t forget that part of the decision is a business decision. Good luck

Full Pay is your hook. There are thousands of Internstional kids at NEU. Not trying to be mean, but your score are not amazing for these reach schools you are trying for. You can always try, but I truly feel you are wasting your application at any Ivy and Babson, for sure

@Lindagaf OP is not wasting his application fee at Babson. OP stats is well above Babson’s average.

Thank you everyone for your helpful comments. NEU offered me $15,000 for freshmen and $7,500 per semester. (15K per typical year.) I will most definitely chose wisely. The thing is, some universities, like NYU, did not ask me if I was going to apply for financial aid. I don’t know if I included that in my common application or not.

Anyways, I am expecting many rejections; however, 1 acceptance would be worthwhile. I have to at least try right?

I am impressed they offered that much. You must have soemthing else they really like. Good luck to you. Your acceptance is worth any denials.

Thanks! @Lindagaf
