Got accepted to Burnett Honors College, but still unsure.

So I was just accepted to the Burnett Honors College at UCF. Due to personal reasons, I have never really wanted to go to this school (not because I think it is a bad school). I am still waiting for reply's from UF and FSU, and while I would rather go to those schools, I doubt I would get in to their Honors programs.
Would it be worth it to miss out on Burnett just to go to a UF or FSU?

If you’re not in love with UCF I think you shouldn’t stick around just for the Honors program unless it’s imperative you get into an Honors program.

I agree with Demure, but from what I heard, the Burnett Honors College is amazing, especially compared to the other school’s Honors Colleges. They give you priority registration, advising, and other things.

I was actually like you once. I wanted to go to FSU or UF, but now that I visited all 3 campuses, Im set on UCF even though I’ll most likely get into UF and FSU.

But I dont know what your personal reasons are, so that’s your decision to make

Without the “personal reasons” we can’t even attempt to answer this question. What are you looking for in a college anyway?

Okay I live in a very close proximity to UCF and I’d rather get further away from home. Other than that, I have nothing wrong with the school. It was my back up school before being accepted to Burnett, but now I’m thinking it’s a good option.

lol I have the same issue with USF. I never even considered it for just that reason. What are your stats? What makes you think you couldn’t get into the honors program at UF or auburn?

Unless you see the benefits of going to UCF and the burnett research opportunities as outweighing your dream school (auburn from the looks of it), then stick to your reaches. However if the field your going into puts more weight on what you know rather than where you learned it…saving money might not be a bad idea.

Allow me to present you with an analogy and I hope this will alleviate your confusing-
UCF is a B school and UF is an A school.
As an honor student at UCF, your ranking will increase to a B+ but you will still fall below the A UF will provide.

^debateable. An A student is an A student on a graduate school application and an A student with research experience trumps one without…so it’s what you make of it.

The “Gator Nation” isn’t as large as it seems from the in-state pov.

Dude do you even know what an analogy is?

hahahhahahaha

No offense but I think you need to get your head out of your ass about UF. As an out of stater, no one sees UF as an ‘A’ school. The only reason people know the school is for the football team. The whole UF fantasy is a Florida thing.

Agreed^ If I’m being honest, people show more respect for schools like UCF, FSU, UM, around here in chicago. Even my AP psychology teacher, who is UF alumni, can’t stand the school. We like to say the 7niversity of Florida is ‘over ranked’ in everything.

To the OP: I see what you mean. College has many different aspects to it, but getting away from the town you’ve lived in is a very appealing though. I say, just look at the pro’s and Con’s of both, especially if one school offers you more money then the other. The education you get at UCF will be almost identical to what you would receive at UF. The only difference between the schools is the football team, city it’s in, and ‘prestique’. Many people are finding out that rankings really aren’t significant. You get out of college what you put into it, and you can’t go wrong with either:)

I was accepted into Burnett and am in the same dilemma. I also got into Auburn, USF, and Alabama and am waiting for decisions at UF, FSU, UGA and Clemson). I really loved UCF’s campus when I visited but always felt that I’d be happiest in a small college town. UCF and USF were always lower on my list because of ‘fit’ even though I’d be happy to attend both schools. Burnett is a great opportunity, though, so I am rethinking everything. This is probably no help to you, seni0r, but maybe knowing other people are going through the same decision making process can ease your mind a bit?

I’ve come to a few conclusions though: this absolutely the best dilemma to be in! Eventually I’ll be turning down a great opportunity for another great opportunity. To me it comes down to ‘fit’ and finances. Does Burnett Honors line up with what you want out of undergrad or can you find what you’re looking for as a non honors student at UF or FSU? What school might be stronger in your particular major? Do you see yourself in a city or small town environment? Those are the questions I’m really examining. I’d recommend doing as much research as possible before deciding- know the class sizes, typical research/internship opportunities, the environment you’d be living in, etc.

Distance is not really an issue to me. If I stay in-state, I will be, at most, 4 hours from the home I was raised in. I see no shame in that. Independence is a state of mind more than anything and gaining it doesn’t necessitate moving 1000 miles away from your family. Everyone is different in that sense, obviously, but I wouldn’t rule out a school just because it is close to where you currently reside. Especially if finances may be an issue and you’d be saving money by going local to UCF.

Sorry for the rambling, lol. I guess I had to get some random thoughts off my mind too. Congrats to seni0r, WRITEfluidity and everyone else that’s been accepted to UCF!

If those who were accepted wouldn’t mind, what were your grades and such to get in? Greatly appreciated.

1550/2280, 3.98/5.98 (our county weighs GPAs weirdly), AP scholar w/distinction, merit semifinalist.

They didn’t seem to care about ECs too much.

I got in with a 4.2 GPA (3.6 unweighted), 1350/2070 SAT and AP scholar with honors.

^ your very close to me auburn. Sorry if I already asked but did you send other stuff with your app? (artwork or essays or recommendations)

I know this wasn’t directed towards me but I submitted an MP3 of an original jazz recording along with my application. My stats are fairly average for Burnett (1420/2120 SAT, 3.75uw/4.38 UCF gpa, attended a well-known prep school). However my ECs are, to be quite frank, run of the mill and I think sending in a sample of my music gave admissions an idea of who I am. I’d recommend submitting additional materials to anyone.

I sent a recommendation letter along with my other stuff. I have some good EC’s that might have helped, because my stats are on the lower end for Burnett I think.
