(stands up and begins to clap)

FutureENT, It is good that you know your goals and you are paying attention to what it takes to achieve them. However, putting too much stress on yourself if going to make it more difficult.

When we attended the admissions session after our tour, we were told that some students applying to Cal Poly are taking courses at JC’s to improve their GPA or bump up their application. It was even recommended, which is more than the UC’s recommend. I thought the bar is being raised too high, but on the other hand, they are sharing what they are seeing on the applications they receive.

If you want to know what you can do now, I would talk to your counselor about re-taking the class you got a lower a grade in, or taking a few JC classes over summer.

If your not interested in that, then don’t worry about it. My son decided he did not have time for extra classes, and he was accepted, but he does have a 4.0 GPA (higher weighted).

Good Luck!

FutureENT, your posting in the completely wrong topic. We’re not going to “chance you” here.
Stop stressing out and be more careful where you post. And btw, cal poly doesn’t care what classes your taking, your EC’s, etc…
Just GPA and test scores.

yea.
FutureENT, considering the stage you are in, theres nothing for you to do except get the highest grades/test scores you can. there’s no point in asking what we think because it’s sooo unpredictable…

I have to agree with the others here. First of all, you could list all your stats (ECs, clubs, sports, etc.) on a UC forum and get a more realistic response. UCs care about the extras more than a school like Cal Poly. As was mentioned, it’s mostly about the numbers with the CSUs. So, while I don’t want to say you’re wasting your time posting your long list of achievements here, it does get a bit redundant. Did you already post your stats in a Chance Me thread? If so, leave it at that. Now you can go back and improve your numbers and do what it takes to make you feel better about potential acceptance to Cal Poly. If you’re also thinking of the UCs and private schools, you certainly can keep up with your ECs, as well. Good luck to you!

Cal poly cares only about GPA and SAT and even that follows some sort of obscure reasoning as evidenced by those accepted and those put on wait lists. Fact is Cal Poly has some strong programs but also some not so strong programs. It would be a stronger college overall if it stopped forcing students to choose a major and instead just took the cream of the crop, instead of having different tiers for different schools.

so im suddenly the bad guy for wanting to go there too?

^You are not at all a “bad guy”. I can tell that you are excited about getting in to Cal Poly and want to know if it is possible. I think the advice you are getting is to wait for a few months and then ask again. The people who are on the site now are worried about getting in right now or talking about their acceptances. You have asked several times and are not getting the answer you want. It is so unpredicatable right now with the economy and the change in college admissions.

Just do your best and enjoy your time in HS. You will have plenty of time to be anxious and worried about admissions in the Fall when it will begin for your year.

You are doing well in school and are clearly a student who has other interests. You will get into college somewhere. Hopefully into Cal Poly if that is what you really want. I would recommend that you just read the posts and learn from others. You can be the first to start a chance thread this summer! Good luck to you!

^ I agree! good post momofmv.

i guess i just misinterpreted what they meant. Ill come back in the summer and post while im studying for the ACT which i wanna improve from a 31 to a 32. Cal Poly is a great school!!! UC quality but smaller and about 5k cheaper a year.

^ don’t worry. i’m sure you’ll make it in. good luck to you!

cal poly is like 10k cheaper per year after housing. i heart it as well. too bad im pretty sure i didnt get in. too bad so sad, im going to either ucsd or ucsb

Dude, those are great schools; particularly UCSD. No worries.
