So I got accepted to Stanford with a full ride and UC Berkeley with a near full ride from Regents. With Regents I get all sorts of perks like priority registration, research opportunities, and networking. Which place would give me a better shot at getting into a US medical school? Is it near impossible to get a high GPA like it is at Berkeley? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

I would definitely suggest Stanford, seeing as it has more prestige & med schools would be more likely to accept students of its caliber. The only reason I see NOT to choose Stanford is if you’ve visited UCB’s campus and feel like you would fit in better/be happier there. Congratulations on both acceptances! :)

You should note that the Regents Scholarship is an attempt to make up for certain things that private schools like Stanford give ALL their students. For example, “Priority Registration” is important at Berkeley because it’s extremely hard to get into the classes you want; that’s not nearly so large a problem at a private school.

Stanford is the more academically prestigious of the two, but really you should visit the two campuses and see where you would be more happy. As long as you work very hard and get a good score on the MCATs you should be able to get into a good medical school!

Stanford - the only reason to pick Cal over Stanford would be money, but since you do not have that problem, I don’t even know why you would even consider Barkeley.

If Stanford is even cheaper - Stanford!

Is this even a question?

Stanford for sure

Gosh, I wouldn’t even think twice if I got accepted by Stanford.

Thanks everyone! And kcinvincible man, I saw that on the Stanford admit Facebook page! So hilarious, kinda mean though haha. I know it seems like a no brainer, but I can’t commit for some reason! Probably because I never visited the campus (it was a reach school). I’m just going to go to both admit weekends and make a last minute decision! Haha

UC Berkeley is the most represented UG in my D’s Medical School class. However, I do not think that you can go wrong with any of these choices. In regard to GPA, it is entirely up to you. Saying that it is impossible to get high GPA is the same as saying that you will not be able to take on an academic load at the Medical School. Just be prepared to work hard, it is all that it takes, no tricks.

MaimiDAP, which medical school does she go to, if you don’t mind me asking? Or in the very least, what state?

OHIO…with many from Ivy’s, class has even PhD from Harvard, Masters of Science from places like JHU and few lawyers.

I second Miami, Cal and U Michigan are the largest feeders to my medical school in Ohio too. Probably partly because they have a lot of pre-meds, but I also think savvy students who suspect they will need 200K plus for med school are choosing public in-state undergrads if they have good institutions. Cal and U Mich are great.

However, Stanford for FREE…Hope you like it when you visit. Great pre-med school, just be aware there is no committee letter from pre-med committee there. Need individual letters from faculty and volunteer/research mentor. Not a big problem, though.

I was wondering what your stats were… My dream schools are also Stanford and Berkeley :)

Omg!!! Please help me!!! I’m an upcoming sophomore and my dream is to attend the university of North Carolina at chapel hill and majoring in business administration to become a sales manager. The only thing I do is all-star and high school cheer. No unc is not as prestiges as Stanford and Berkeley but obviously you know what your doing!!! Lol I literally have no clue where to start…what classes should I take to raise my chances of getting in? Or extracurricular? Please please please help!!! Lol
